World's Best Board Games 2009 - PC

The commentary I read about this game and the grouping it was in made me think this would be a good bet. It wasn't.The program is not "BAD" but it is not up to expectations.When installing the game you get two options. The regular and the NetBook. The regular on a Win7 laptop gives an error on a File when starting a game. The NetBook runs OK until you do something unexpected and then you get the same error.The games I have played thus far, Pachisi, Backgammon and Checkers, are OK but are a bit slow. The Pachisi has only 1 Die and you need a 6 to start the game. That can take a very LONNNNG time. The board is very simplistic and movement is not all that easy or intuitive.The Checkers was OK and as someone else noted the AI is very good. The Backgammon was also a bit tough as you must click and click and click and click and click.I would not recommend this game at any price, except for free. The music is good though

Would not appear on my display. Ran in the background and could not be seen. Decreasing the resolution didn't help as only a partial of image appeared and it was stuck in the lower right of the screen. I should be surprise as the cost to ship the game was three times the price a paid. Piece of garbage.

This is a not bad choice to play games with. I got this game for me to play with my 10 year old daughter along with me to play against the computer. The computer has a very good AI to play games, and a traditional game like Chess I can only beat on level 1, and very rarely level 2, and even level 1 can get tough. I can't even beat the computer on level 1 on checkers and I thought I was a decent checkers player. The games I most enjoy playing the computer and my daughter is The Game of the Goose, a luck oriented game created in the Middle Ages to illustrate how Fate influences a person's life. I don't know about all the philosophical implications, but the game is certainly fun to play with against a person or against the computer. It's a totally luck game, and it is fun to play. I also enjoy playing against either my daughter or the computer in the other totally luck game, Snakes and Ladders. I found out the origins of Snakes and Ladders come from the Hindu philosophy of reincarnation, so that was interesting to discover but the game is still as fun to play as ever. I also played some of the many other games available like the Egyptian game Senet, one of the oldest in existence, but for me the most fun games to play were Game of the Goose, Snakes and Ladders, and Level 1 Chess in that order. Still I recommend this game for anyone interested in learning the history of games as well as for someone wanting to find something to play around with when they're bored. They can while away the time playing this quite easily.

Don't know why, but I expected more. A lot of these games are old and in the way. For what it is, it's OK I guess. Response time is a little slow, but I expected that (being a 2009 edition). Meh ....

Can not down load for windows 8. worthless to me. It was a waste of money. When I left message to see if it could be used for Windows 8 I got no answer.

Haven't been able to explore every game but have played several. They are fun but sometimes it is hard to navigate around and change your character etc.

Don't buy this product. When I tried to install and use it, an error message came up in German. I went on line to find out what it meant, and only found a lot of others who were also trying to find out what it meant, but no answers. Tried contacting the company that produced it and sent a query to the listed contact e-mail. Never heard from them. A waste of money.

I really like the way the games are set up and how the other players react during them. I would recommend this game to everyone.
