Confucianism: A Short Introduction Paperback – August 31, 2000

Worth a read. It keeps it simple and concise. Gives a few basic overviews of the topic/subtopics at hand.

If you're looking for an enjoyable read that you can just brainlessly flip pages through then this isn't really what you're looking for. It is however, a great source of information as an introductory into the world of Confucianism (as the title implies). The authors' do a tremendous job explaining the basic overview of Confucianism throughout the centuries and is very well done in that regard. Sometimes it can get a bit wordy and therefore tedious but ultimately if you're looking for a nice, compact, and well thought out/well written piece of information on this eastern school of thought, this is a very good choice.

I concur with another review that it's quite wordy and too often I have to re-read sentences to grasp their meaning, however, the writing style is vibrant which makes up for these speed bumps. I was a bit hesitant to pay 3x the price of most kindle books, but I'm glad I did as this must be the best illustration of what it was like to truly live as a Confucian throughout Chinese history. After all, Confucianism is about living and learning, so the role that Confucianism played as the philosophical fabric of Chinese society is hugely important to truly grasp what Confucianism is all about. I've read all the main Confucian texts outside of the histories, but there's always that "you can't know what it's about because you're not Chinese" factor. Well, this book helps to clarify why people say this, because the minutia of Confucianism exists in the daily life of Chinese society and few non-Asians who read the Confucian classics have any familiarity with this side of it. I give it five stars because, aside from the above, the authors succeed at packing a huge amount of research and historical information into a book that's enjoyable to read.

Very good book........Also delivered in very good condition by vendor

I ordered this book with other books that i was intending to buy. I was surprised at the discount mentioned and i thought it would make sense to buy it now though for a later read. When the book arrived i realised it was only MRP INR 1300 odd (mentioned on the back cover) Vs INR 3000 odd that is quoted (as price before discount).I am sure the book might be a good read but disappointed with how facts were misrepresented
