“Without grammar very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed”
Lingo Mastery has embarked on a new mission – to make Italian more accessible to a wider population. In the Introductory Note the goal is stated well: ‘Probably Italian is not a "stranger" to you and you already know some words. Beginners will be relieved to know that if you know English, learning Italian will be less difficult than you think. About 30% of English words have Latin origins, and Italian is one of the languages that derives almost entirely from Latin. The phonetics of the language is easily understood by reading the written words, which is a great help for new learners. Learning vocabulary means accumulating and remembering individual items. These are stored in our memory, which is short-term or long-term - according to the number of words that can be stored and the sedimentation time - or working memory, where the information is held for 20 seconds, studied and then filed. The challenge of this book is to help students to move the vocabulary from their short-term memory to their long-term one to boost words retention. To do this, a learner needs to meet a word at least 6 times in one or more specific lexical sets. The organization of words in thematic groups - as in this book - is of great help for students to understand the context and recreate the same interconnections between words as in their first language acquisition. Each word will be presented in Italian and English in its lexical set. Sets are listed in alphabetical order even if the words are not. This is supported by the idea that learners don’t have to memorize just lists of words from A to Z but choose those more interesting or attractive and give them a meaning. One of the best ways to improve your vocabulary is to read and read often.’ The specifics of the language are outlined (especially the importance of masculine and feminine) and then the lessons begin.’After their success teaching Spanish and French, now they turn to teach Italian! And it works. The technique is to expand vocabulary. The specifics of the language are outlined (especially the importance of masculine and feminine) and then the lessons begin.Examples - ‘Young - È troppo giovane per guidare un’auto. She is too young to drive a car.Stretto – Narrow - Non puoi passare da qui. È troppo stretto. You can’t pass from here. It’s too narrow.Debole – Weak - Il vento è troppo debole per andare a vela. The wind is too weak to go sailing.Vuoto – Empty - La mia tazza è vuota. Ho bevuto tutto il mio tè. My cup is empty. I drank all my tea.And so it proceeds with one of the more accessible adjuncts to mastering the French vocabulary in a manner that places words in context and thus – easy to remember! The technique is solid and the lessons well taught. This is a very fine introduction to Italian, appropriate for all age levels, and a book much needed at this time in our national status! Grady Harp, November 18

Excellent way of acquiring Italian vocabulary!
Lingomastery’s latest vocabulary book continues their streak of well-organized and carefully planned language vocabulary books. I have read and used previous books by Lingomastery for Spanish. I am just starting to learn Italian, so I am part of the target beginner audience. I found that just by carefully reading each example sentence and trying to understand it without immediately looking at the translation, I was able to acquire and remember a large number of new words. I learned new phrases and idioms by seeing them repeated in different contexts. The grammar and syntax is sinking in without explicit grammatical instruction. I’m also learning reading skills such as how to figure out a words meaning through contextual cues and clues. The sentences are varied and interesting. The grouping/categorization is very helpful, both as a mental organizer for learning and a helpful way of looking things up later. Overall, i like this book and have found it very helpful as a start to learning Italian. Of course, it does help that I love to read.

Alright biy
Its good book was kind of dirty and had a food stain on it but im not going to complain about it much because it was alright lots of phrases and very educational but the one thing I actually disliked is how it doesn’t show you how to properly pronounce the words but overall not bad for the price

A Vocabulary Builder to Help on the Road to Fluency
I received an advance copy of this book, and I must say it was a real eye-opener. About five years ago I took a few semesters of Italian classes at.the community college. But if you don't use it, you lose it. In the last year I decided to try learning through self study. I mainly been trying to build vocabulary and letting the grammar take care of itself. I've tried many methods, and landed in Duolingo. It's been a challenge trying to pick up the grammar, but I think it is pretty good with building a vocabulary through repetition. But after beginning with this book, I was stunned by how many really basic words I haven't been exposed. I will continue with Duolingo because I've grown comfortable with the app. But I will spend at least an equal amount of time every day inside the pages of this book to learn an expanded vocabulary that I believe is essential on the road to what I hope will one day be fluency in the beautiful Italian language.

Good reference for common vocab and in context usage
I received this book in advance and am very pleased with the content. As I've begun to progress from the beginner to low intermediate level, I've struggled to increase my vocabulary in a systematic way to match the increase in my grammatical repertoire. I'm hoping to use the vocab lists and helpful sentence examples to improve my vocabulary and aid my active speaking. One change that would be nice to see in a future version is a literal and metaphorical interpretation of the idioms at the end. It's really helpful to learn idioms, but would be interesting to understand the literal translation in addition to the idiomatic equivalent in English.

Kindle and audible not integrating
I bought the kindle and audible versions thinking I could access the audible through kindle like all other books I have purchased in the past (whispersync). Somehow the two apps do not sync together on this book. I had to return the audible and kept only the kindle version.

The text, Italian Vocabulary Builder: 2222 Italian Phrases To Learn Italian..., is truly a useful and immense resource for anyone trying to build their Italian vocabulary. It contains useful daily phrases and basic vocabulary. The sentences/ phrases lend themselves easily to repetition, making them easier to commit to memory. The table of contents is broken down into various settings (see photo), for example Railway Travel or Time. The strength of this resource is learning vocabulary, a great place to begin; not learning grammar.
