Pretty good book for a beginner
Pretty good book for a beginner. Jancis Robinson speaks about wine in anti-snobish language. Good entry step into wine world.Though if you are already into wine, it will be difficult to find something for yourself. But still this read can be used in technics of approaching your guests at wine tasting events.

Almost as enjoyable as drinking wine
I ordered four of these little books as Christmas presents for fellow wine lovers. It's perhaps more designed for people without quite as much "experience" as we have, but it is also a very readable, practical guide. I recommend it for all but the most knowledgeable wine lovers.

Good easy intro
I really like the tone of the book -- not snooty at all -- a short, easy read little book for basic concepts and the most commonly used grapes. A good value and a good way to see whether you are interested in learning more. There was more info on European wines and less on those of other continents. Not surprising, since viticulture flowered in Europe and we all need to learn about those wine traditions. Those of us mainly interested in drinking wines produced on a different continent will need to find up-to-date info elsewhere.

Confidence in 24 hours
After reading this book I’ll feel a lot more confident in buying wine. This book helps build a framework for understanding wine basics and what exactly you’re looking at in a wine shop.

Good overview, too much needless information
The first part of the book had some great information designed to educate beginner wine enthusiasts. The last half of the book picked apart every global appellation and their varietals...way too much information, and thus difficult to read.

Very good
Very good read, it toes the line of being not too vague and not too detailed. Perfect for someone wanting to brush up on their wine knowledge.

Compact, vivid, excellent
This book, paired with a more general beginner wine book (wine for dummies, wine folly) would be ideal. It’s enlightening to hear the opinions of a wine master, someone who is passionate and knowledgeable. However, I found conflicting statements & opinions after reading several wine books, so in the end you have to make up your own mind about some things. But this compact, vividly written book is a perfect quick read to add to your wine library.

Very strongly recommended, - even if you know a lot about wine
This little book has lots of useful information and advice.Even after 50 years of drinking wine I did not appreciate how critical it isto have the wine at the right temperature. However, then one has to solve the problem of how to get the wine to the right temperaturewithout having some special equipment (a cellar or refrigerator or whatever). The absence of snobbishness in the text is also much appreciated.
