Bridges of NYC
I have been interested in the bridges of New York. Started with Brooklyn. Now want to visit the George Washington and Verrazano-Narrows. This offering gives me points to focus during the visit.

Somewhat dated, but plenty of excellent history
Although there are quite a few books on the Brooklyn Bridge, and a handful of others on the city's suspension bridges, this is the only one I've come across which covers ALL of New York City's overwater bridges in some level of detail. The chapters on the Harlem River and Triborough Bridges, in particular, were a lot more in-depth than I was expecting. Although there's quite a bit on the engineering and design of each structure, the main focus tends to be on the thorny political and civic issues which surrounded the construction of many of these bridges, and some of the public feuds and scandals which erupted at the time. Originally published in the late 70s, parts of it will definitely be more relevant to someone who lived in New York at the time than to a modern-day reader. The quality of the Dover reprint is marginal at best, with thin paper and frequently washed-out photographs. Still, I'd recommend this to anyone with a serious interest in bridges. There's plenty of excellent history, and Sharon Reier is a compelling writer, even if I couldn't find anything else credited to her name.

If ya like NYC history and its bridges, buy this book.
Very informative and detailed. This book is a must have, for students of several backgrounds, and anyone interested in mechanical design and development of bridges, and the changes over time.

A Book to Treasure!
I just loved this book. I have been in my "New York mode" for quite some time, just living in the great city vicariously! Wish I could move back there, but can't afford it! A beautiful book, I highly recommend it. Beautiful pictures of the bridges and their history. A lovely look at New York's treasures.

Fun to read
Lots of old black and white pictures and interesting history of NY bridges. Good general reading about the history, people and politics of building bridges. Not a "technical" book but it does provide general descriptions of different bridges and some there applications.
