Fast, robust, easy install - what's not to like?
I'd decided that I wanted to use M.2 SSD devices as part of my travelling toolkit for server builds/software installation, so was looking for a suitable caddy. I particularly wanted a solid case; on the basis of reviews I went for this one, and it doesn't disappoint on that score. In short, I'm very happy that I went down this route, especially after the surprise I got described further down in the review!I was quite impressed with first one, so I've now purchased two more of these enclosures over the last 6 months or so - another one for me and one for a family member who does a lot of video work. They're easy to put together, everything you need is in the package including a screwdriver, a thermal pad (important!) for your NVMe device and two short USB cables (USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C). The small screws (2 needed) are slightly fiddly to fit if you have chubby fingers like me, but nothing unusual there. It takes about 5 minutes including unpacking to get it ready to go.I use Samsung 970 EVO Plus (256G and 1TB) devices in the caddies. The performance I thought was pretty darn good compared with the USB3 flash drives I used before, worth the 'upgrade' to NVMe. For mid to large file transfers I see typically 300MB/s+ even using Windows copy - see the first pic. But then I upgraded my home desktop PC, fitting NVMe devices alongside a Crucial BX500 SSD. Hmm...The first file transfers were pretty much the same, around 300MB/s+ from the SSK to the Crucial SSD. But then I did a copy from the SSK caddy to one of the internal NMVe devices... oh, my...! In the second pic, you'll see the rate at 1.8GB/s (actually it was faster initially), which is probably close to the USB 3.2 max. I'd forgotten that the transfer rate for SATA SSDs was probably the limiter... What this tells you is that the controller in the caddy has properly implemented NVMe and USB 3.2 Gen 2.One thing you will want to watch for. The NVMe drives run pretty hot, more so than USB flash drives, so it's a good idea to make sure they're in free air when you use them. The thermal pad applied to the device and the aluminium body help to get the heat away, which will help the life of the device; just be aware that yes, it really does get that warm!

Long lasting and great, consistent performance
Used this item for years now with over a dozen drives, never misses a beat and has been an exceptionally useful tool. I’d give it 6 stars if I could.

Excellent SSD enclosure works with NVMe and SATA III m.2 2280 SSDs
Very pleasing, multi format SSD enclosure.I've tested with a 1tb NVMe SSD - getting around 500mb/s write for one transfer and two files writing at 400+mb/s simultaneously on USB 3.0 from my Asus laptop (reading from its internal SSD). So it is fair to say that 500 to 900 mb/s are achievable.I also tested a 512gb SATA III drive, and was able to write to it at 350mb/s (I didn't try simultaneous writes)Compared to other USB devices using this enclosure and an SSD are a breath of fresh air compared to the paltry 10-150 mb/s I was getting with other USB devices (10m on USB data keys and 150m (max) on external USB HDD.)Unless you are looking for GB/S this is a really nice bit of kit..... but it is a bit fiddly to put an SSD in as it uses a couple of tiny screws. However the screwdriver IS MAGNETIC which really helps.Happy I bought it, I will be shocked if anyone else is disappointed.

Great Price Great performance
I took a chance going with this unit as it was the best priced unit here, however any fears were soon removed upon opening the amazon packaging. The packaging was high quality and not your usual no name bland brown box. The device itself is made to a high standard, heavy metal finish it actually looks better in the flesh than the picturesHowever and it's a small however, the manual is the usual low quality translated junk. In fact foget the manual and look at the pictures above on the product listing. The manual misses a step out thats in the pictures here, following the images you can be up and running in minutes.Performance is unbelievable to be fair, plugged into a USB C 3.1 Gen 2 port on my hackintosh and it's amazing to see how quick this thing runs, GB's of files transfer in seconds.Tried with both a Samsung 970 Evo 256gb and Silicon Power 256GB with the same results (these both will max out the 1000mb/s read and write)Yes it gets hot but thats the downside of NVME storage, they get hot in a standard case let alone a little metal coffin. It has not caused any disconnects yet so thats good. But obviously bare in mind the life of the drive will probably be shortened by any of these enclosures
