Start Your Own Medical Practice: A Guide to All the Things They Don't Teach You in Medical School about Starting Your Own Practice (Open for Business)

Worth $10 for kindle, and that's about it.
For background, I am a family practice physician six years out of residency. To date, I have exclusively worked locums and for an HMO. I intend to open a DPC practice in the next year. I purchased the Kindle version of this book based on the high ratings. After reading the book, and reviewing the ratings, I wonder if the ratings come from the authors etc.The book is indeed quite simplistic. I would offer that I gleaned maybe $10 worth of tips, but that is about it. I would not recommend it. I would opine that if you find yourself learning much from this book then you should cut your losses and hire a consultant.A short list of what I was looking for but didn't find in the book "Start Your Own Medical Practice: A Guide to All the Things They Don't Teach You in Medical School about Starting Your Own Practice (Open for Business)":-information about setting up or running in-office labs-information about setting up or using in-office radiology-information on issues related to in-house medications and vaccinationsMost of the topics covered were covered so superficially that I would classify their description as a checklist and not a "guide" (unless you define a guide as something that points you to google). This being said, you can use the list of chapters for this book (free to preview) as a guide to start your education via google. If you went to medical school in the last 20 years, you should know five of the 17 chapters (i.e. Medical Library, Ethics, Medical-Legal issues, Preventing Malpractice Suits, and Personal health). The balance of the book is not particularly medical office specific other than information that is remarkably common sense.I don't have a better book to offer at this point. When I do, I'll offer an addendum here.

Comprehensive
This book covers just about everything you should know. The only thing I didn't like about it was that in some areas, it sounds discouraging and makes opening a practice intimidating. It does have great checklists and information though.

Good check list for setting up a practice
I found this book very valuable. It provided me with a very good starting point for thinking about starting my own medical practice.

Useful for the newbie.
It even reminds me that I need chairs in the waiting room. This is meant for someone like me who graduates a residency or who just stepped out of a hospitalist job and wants to make her own way in the world.

Good for all new practices
This book would be useful to anyone starting a new practice. It covers most of the basics and is an easy read. It also lists websites to use for certain services. The only thing that it lacks is there needs to be more information on insurance credentialing.

Boa leitura. Boas sugestoes.
Boas sugestões, apesar das diferenças entre Brasil e EUA. Um roteiro completo e cuidadoso. Aplicabilidade no Brasil se restringe às sugestões de operação e comercial. Cuidado com a legislação.
