Not sure what others are doing but it works for me!
I have dark brown hair and typically schedule my cut and color appointments every 6 weeks because I can't afford to go more frequently. For the past 2 years or so the gray root line has been getting bigger and bigger by the time I get to my next appointment. Maybe my hair is growing faster in my older age? Who knows. I've been using the spray-on stuff which provides quick, easy coverage, but makes my hair sticky and my fingers turn brown if I touch my hair. Yuck.I bought a 2-pack after my last salon appointment so I could be ready when the grays started to come in. I was too busy and a little nervous about using this stuff because I've never done at-home color before. By the time I got around to trying it there was plenty of gray to have to cover up. I figured it would be easiest to rinse it during my regular shower routine, so I applied it as best I could, waited the 10 minutes, then jumped in to rinse it off. Yeah, black water everywhere. I then proceeded to wash my hair my typical 2 times because it was dirty when I started, then conditioner and blah, blah, shower was done. I excitedly looked at my hair when done and had the same problem as others. It barely covered up the grays. Then I thought....why would it not work? Maybe I did not apply enough? Maybe the water in the shower was too hot (hot water causes the pores in yur hair to open), and maybe washing it twice immediately after was a bad thing? So I dried my hair with the blow dryer, tried again using a greater volume of product...slathered that sucker on...waited 10 minutes then rinsed it in the kitchen sink using cool water. Oh...My...God...it was amazing. I really wish I had taken before and after pictures. The coverage was a little weak around my temples but I think it's because I was too tentative about getting die on my face and the hairs are short and tougher to cover unless you put a lot on in that area. But everywhere else turned out fantastic, especially my crown area where I get this circle of gray no matter how I try to style my hair. My husband was in shock at how great it looked.I've n ow done it one more time with the same great results. The applicator makes it easy to apply. Make sure you put it on your hair, not your scalp. Use a sufficient amount of product and goop it up (technically I got three applications from one bottle, but I expect to get 2 from the next one).I was very skeptical after reading all these reviews. I don't know what they are doing, but I am here to tell you, it works.

Does NOT cover gray
I’m only giving this one star because it’s easy to apply. However, I left it on longer than 10 minutes and all it wash completely out of my hair. You could not tell I colored it at all. Very disappointed in this product.

So easy to use! Wish it worked!
I always use Clairol root touch-up because it covers my grey roots and extends an overall hair coloring for an extra couple of weeks. However, I am a bit awkward/clumsy and i usually end up with a dyed hairline too. I thought that this new gel would not only be easier and neater to use, it would last longer as you don't use it all each time. The gel was DEFINITELY easier and neater to use, HOWEVER it completely rinsed out with water not changing my roots color at all! I am so disappointed!

Easy to Apply, Easy to use, Works well. Good coverage. Lasts a along time. Love it
Love it, Great for at home touch ups. Use on freshly washed toweled dried hair. Apply and leave on for a least ten minutes. If you have resistant gray leave it on longer. Rinse do not shampoo rinse it out. Wait two days before washing hair. This is not a permanent dye. It lasts a good while for me. I then cover the new growth around my hairline. when I need it. It does not take long. Love it

Works if I leave on overnight.
This works on my grays, but only if I leave it on overnight. There were a few that weren’t completely covered, but they did blend in better. I don’t want to use a permanent color since I go every 6 weeks for a root touch up at the salon, so this helps in between colors.

It will stain your towels or carpet so soon washable Floors.
i cover my roots once a month. It is fast and easy to do . Only last a few weeks but that is fine. It last longer if you only use conditioner the first couple of washes.

It washed right out
I decided to give this touch up gel a try despite the bad reviews because no mixing was involved, it came with a nice brush applicator, and it was more gentle than semi or permanent dyes. I ordered medium brown versus the light brown I normally use to dye my hair in hopes I'd see some sort of color...but no. It looked a lot darker as I put it on my roots and I was worried it would be too dark, but it washed out completely with cool water. I didn't use hot or warm water, and I didn't shampoo it. I put it on clean, dry hair, and left it on for over 30 minutes. Not only did it not color my grays, but it did nothing for the rest of my hair either. The brush applicator was nice, but that's the only thing I liked about it. I bought a 2 pack, so now I'm stuck with 1.5 applications I can't use. Oh well, back to mixing the harsher dyes...

Easy
Ok ladies. I just used it..FABULOUS!I would still use my brush from the nice and easy root touch up though. Little tip. I use scotch painters clear sheet with tape to cover anything in bathroom that mite get color on it. Works great. Price is also good. Depending on how much you need to cover, you can get 2 to 4 uses, you'll know after first use. 10 minutes...done...
