Fantastic Planer! Worth Every Penny!
I had several interior doors that were binding-up in spots, and decided it was finally time to do something about them.. Ordered this, and tackled them right away.. The planer worked flawlessly. There is a bit of a learning curve, but it's more technique than anything.. Watching a couple of youtube videos will help.. As well, you can adjust it to take off such a small amount of wood per pass, it's pretty hard to make a big mistake.. Firm pressure on the front plate at the beginning of the cut, and more pressure on the rear plate as you're finishing the cutting pass.. And as you build your technique, you can easily adjust the cutting depth to take a little more material off per pass..The included metal guide was very helpful in keeping everything in alignment..I didn't use the dust bag, but did appreciate the dual exhaust ports.. I would not buy one of these without that feature. The bottom-line is, I don't think I would have been any happier with a planer costing 2x-3x as much. I do wish it came with a tool bag (only the cardboard box), but otherwise, this is a fantastic planer, and a bargain at the price.. Very pleased with it..

Parking Foot needs to be changed
The hand planer has a nice feel and balance to it and not as bulky and heavy as a lot of the lower priced ones. I bought it to plane down my deck joist. It does a nice job and has power to spare. But the problem I had with it is my joist is 15 feet long and if you want to go over the same spot a few times the wood is so smooth that the Parking Foot just slides on the wood and doesn't go down so if you want to start at a specific spot a lot of times you can't and then when l push down harder to make the Parking Foot go down it comes down too hard and gouges the joist. I'm thinking of just removing it and just being careful how I set it down, I'll have a lot more control that way.

Nice tool. Dust bag works ok, use right out of the box.
No complaints. Worked great for planing overly crowned floor joists. Sure it was new but it left a very clean edge. Could see this being used on finished edges of doors etc. Better pricing than Makita.

Way better than I expected
I had 3 doors that needed to replaced. All of them needed to be planed in order to fit better. I really didn't want to spend $100-$200 dollars for a planer, so I bought an inexpensive portable Ryobi door trimmer at Home Depot ($20) which was a disaster. Next I rented a Milwaukee planer for a day ($25). Worked OK, but had issues. A few days later during some humid weather, two of the doors started to stick. By now, you have probably figured out I don't do carpentry for a living. So my next step was to look for a low cost alternative to the big brand name planers and came across this Porter-Cable. How bad could it be? After reading some positive reviews I ordered it. THIS IS NOT A CHEAP PLANER ALTERNATIVE. It was just as heavy and well built as the Milwaukee and worked better. The adjustments were easier, worked better, and it took me fewer passes. Surfaces were baby smooth. The planer guide helped keep the planner at right angles. Don't know anything about reliability, but for now I can highly recommend this planer.

Great Planner!
Had a lot of woodworking jobs coming up soon, so I decided to break down and buy one. First off it's a Porter Cable which is a really good brand I've had multiple tools over the years and they are just as good as any brand. 2ndly the price for which I was willing to spend was very reasonable because I didnt wanna go to much higher and I really wasnt worried about it having to be cordless. For the few times a year I'll use it I am pleased with the price and what good features it has. I first used it on planeing some doors down and it didnt fantastic! The only thing is if your not careful you can get carried away and take off too much and it's really best to practice a bit on a piece of scrap before you do a real project. I hadn't used one in probably 10 years and so it took a little while to get the swing of it. Great affordable planner!

Good Value
Not top line by any means but for the $ I am happy with the purchase. Wish I would have bought a 4" planer, but I didn't.
