Nice retro sounding tone module.
A nice retro sounding tone module. Due to the aluminum casing, it’s a solid and sturdy piece of gear. I’m using mine in conjunction with a Alesis Q88 midi controller. Simple to set up and ready to play in minutes.Mine (as another reviewer pointed out) came with a foreign (Asia market I believe) a/c adapter. No worries though,as I run mine from a powered usb hub. If you like 80s / 90s style sounds, it’s a pretty cool kit. A nice way to run midi controllers sans a computer.

Never worked, broken out of the box
This never worked, it just outputs static and clicking sounds. I can hear clicks when I press my midi keyboard so I know it's connected. I've also tried replacing all cables so I'm confident it's the pianobox. I'm reaching out to the manufacturer to see about a replacement and will update my review if I do.

Still not sure
I really like the synthesis quality from this device - most instruments sound almost real. The device has lots of voices, so I don't have to worry about unvoiced notes. However, I've notice that it "forgets" to respond to Note-Off events, and have not had any luck diagnosing what causes this. I can play a MIDI file on the computer, and part way through, a note might suddenly decide to get stuck, on. Doesn't happen often, but when it does, it happens consistently. The only solution is to turn off the device. (I can send an "all notes off" MIDI message, and that stops it.) It's really annoying, but it's also the only thing keeping this from being a 5-star device.

A good place to start
I am not a synth player. I needed a place to start from, and this Miditech unit is working out great until I figure out where I am going. It's relatively inexpensive, easy to use, and sounds pretty good. I really couldn't ask for more.

Great Classic sounds
I am getting back into playing more keyboards, and I wanted to find something simple to start with with a variety of sounds so that I can start to figure out what my needs are in terms of equipment and things to practice and work on. It has all of the 128 standard General Midi sounds, although the manual only shows you the patch names for the first 64. It also has a bunch of other emulated keyboard sounds in a second bank. One or two of the sounds are a little bit too loud and overdrive the output a bit, but most of the other sounds are solid. Everything is velocity sensitive and even some of the patches have aftertouch, although it only seems to be the same as whatever the MOD wheel is set to do for the patches I've listened to so far. If you have a controller with pads that are already set to channel 10 (the standard MIDI drum channel) it will play a bunch of the drum sounds along with whatever keyboard patch you're using.

The best value in keys. DONE
They literally could change the whole music game with this. Different versions, different sound packs. But the FORM FACTOR is unbeatable. Truly hope they continue to make this.Ps the e-MU sounds take this to the next llevel v

Returned, waiting on refund
Did not perform as expected. Sounds were kinda cheesy, even the alleged better sounds (other than GM). Returned as it did not meet my needs.
