.com In his heyday, fans went to Don Williams concerts like they went to church--quietly, reverently. They might approach this set, with its 16 No. 1 hits, with similar devotion. The skeletal, small-band country-folk sound frames his guileless baritone so delicately that one could make a case for Williams as one of the fathers of New Age music. But these singles, no matter how soft and simple, refuse to recede into the background. That's partly because of the sing-along melodies, but mostly because he conveys these lyrics--which could be artsy ("Good Ole Boys Like Me") or brazenly direct even by Nashville standards ("You're My Best Friend")--with irresistible warmth, intimacy, and empathy. Forty songs may add up to more time than you care to spend in church in one sitting, but if you have this, you'll never need another Williams CD. --John Morthland

Nice, calm music! Great singer
Don Williams is an old country singer. His songs are nice and calming. Very nice to listen to. Older country songs are the best!

I love Don Williams and this CD has all of his best recordings. I received it in original packaging so it is not a used one and shipping was prompt.

Love his music
I've never heard a smoother voice. Could listen to his music all day. The lyrics are great and he can be understood. So many artists can't seem to sing where the words are clear. If you love good timeless music then buy this one.

Southern ballads at their best
I think that this compilation of songs is great. Will you? It depends on what you're looking for.The songs on this CD showcase Don Williams as a ballad singer with a Southern accent. Some of them have a light touch, such as "Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good" with the lyrics "I'm not a righteous man but ...". Some are more wistful, even longing such as "Maggie's Dream" -- about a waitress in a truck stop in Asheville who's never seen the other side of the mountains. You may or may not find a particular favorite, but you might. The songs have themes, as the songs above illustrate. My personal favorite is "Good Ole Boys Like Me" which made me homesick when I first heard it years ago. It's hard not to remember lyrics like "I can still hear the soft Southern winds in the live oak trees" and there's a great whimsical note to "Those Williams boys, they still mean a lot to me, Hank and Tennessee."In addition to outstanding lyrics, Don Williams has a great voice and the outstanding duet with Emmylou Harris is a bonus.

This is a great 2 disc set
This is a great 2 disc set. I grew up listening to my mom's BJ Thomas and Don Williams albums, and I have fond memories of laying in the floor in my mom and dad's bedroom in front of that old record player. Out of nostalgia I re-discovered BJ Thomas several years ago, but Mr. Williams' passing unfortunately is what brought me back to him. What a smooth voice, and excellent songwriting. His tone and words put me completely at ease. I am saddened of his passing, but I really happy to have this in my collection. Rest in peace, Mr. Williams. You had one of the all-time great voices, and you will not be forgotten.

Good compilation
I love the songs, but the case came with a few cracks. Only complaint.
