Meike 50mm F1.7 Full Frame Manual Focus Prime Lens Compatible with Canon RF Mount Cameras EOS-R EOS-RP R5 R6

This lens was such a treat to receive. The EOS R came out around a year and a half ago, the lenses rolled out bit by bit since then. With the RF mount being so new the options for lenses have been very limited. The Canon RF lenses are huge, heavy, and so expensive. So when I saw a 50mm range lens that was a native RF mount for so little, I had to try it!I come from a film photography background, starting with manual lenses on the good old Canon AE1 (if you don't know this camera look it up!). Over the years I have moved to digital with fully auto lenses. So the first photos I took with this lens brought me right back to my roots of manual photography.Build: The lens is built like a tank. It's small but feels substantial and strong when mounted on the camera. It's not heavy but does not feel like a flimsy plastic lens. The case is made of aluminum and the glass looks first-rate. It comes with a pouch and a nice lens hood.The lens focus ring is smooth and makes it easy to find focus and keep it. The same can be said for the aperture ring, it has enough resistance to it so that it will not slip. The mount feels well made and secure on the body. I was happy with how it fits on the camera and felt snug and safe.Image Quality: The photos came out great. The quality of the images was so impressive! I could get very close to the subject and get a macro like an image, or shoot wide and have a very clean and sharp overall picture. With the Canon RF mount, the camera has the ability to create very sharp images because of the removal of the mirror. This lens takes full control of that feature.The aperture goes from 1.7, and it is razor-sharp. Most of the lenses that I use on shoots and for work are f2.8, so having some extra flexibility to go to 1.7 was a lot of fun. Using such a shallow depth of field helps the artist focus the viewer's eye. It gives more artistic control when creating images where you want the customer or viewer to look. This is a great tool that shouldn't be overlooked in this lens.Who is this lens for? If you want a cost-effective lens to jump into the RF mount system, this is your lens. Right now the lenses are so expensive for the RF system but this will allow you to get started. If you don't have a manual focusing lens, I would highly recommend this lens to try manual focus. I think it is good for all photographers to use manual focusing because it allows you to become a better creator by using more of your senses to create images.I grew up shooting with manual film cameras and this was a throwback for me. It reminded me that photography is an art and it's fun to engage your senses and use your eyes and hands to make art!Pick this lens up and enjoy it.

The media could not be loaded.  Nice bokeh, easy to use, a little hard to take off but it’s not a big deal. It’s just not as smooth as a Canon lens going on my R50. I’d buy it again if I had to! It’s great for portrait photography.There’s no auto focus or image stabilization, so I’m not sure why those are being rated for this lens when reviewing.July 2023 Edit: I ended up returning and buying the Canon 50mm mainly because I needed autofocus for videos. I just don’t think I’m a manual lens typa person. It’s a great lens though!

Overall great lens for the price. I would buy another one of their lenses.

This product is good as a first lens for any casual shooter who enjoys a retro feel and has a Canon R series camera. It’s build quality feels very good especially due to the metal exterior. You can use it for portrait photography, but be careful! It’s manual focus only. It has good picture quality for its price

Looking for best images Quality with great price? This lens is The best options for you!!! I Highly recommended if you can’t afford for higher lens. You won’t regret with the quality and what can it do. I’m so happy to have this len as my dailymain lens for all my projects. Can’t wait to have more products from meike. Y’all are the best & life saver for those who can’t afford expensive lens.

The media could not be loaded.  I use it for astrophotography/time lapse on Canon RP. Works fine but stars have purple haloes (chromatic aberration) and there is some vignetting. But still very good value.

Images are fine, but I tried a few of these in different mounts, every one of them broke basically the first day I used it. I take excellent care of my gear, and have been shooting for over 40 years, but wow, the slightest bump and no more focus ring control. Once it broke the only way to focus was a rough slide in and out of the lens, yeah like that's going to work.Go ahead buy it, and just remember to put it in a large box with lots of bubble wrap and then put all that in your bag....LOL
