A total waste of 2 hours and $50
If you don't buy a replacement tape this new screen will 1)be incredibly difficult to remove since you need to keep this tape in tact and 2)won't snap back together anyway - even if you spend an hour cleaning and smoothing the tape for reuse - without some big problems. Mine cracked in half as I snapped the whole thing back together because the tape had a slight bump in it. A total waste of 2 hours and $50. This should come with new tape - period.*Update*After a good nights sleep I thought I should amend my review.Pros: This is the correct replacement part for 1st gen Nexus 7. The parts were exactly as described and worked.Cons: This new glass cracked right when I was pressing the tablet back together. There's no mention if this is a Gorilla Glass replacement screen and it didn't require much pressure to just crack when slight pressure was applied. Also, if you want to know how to replace the screen/lcd you have to find your own preferred YouTube video-- no directions included.Advice: Buy a new bezel to go with this kit. You will save at least an hour--mostly from not having to pick glass shards out of the old bezel/tape which apparently warp quite easily. They are on Amazon for about $21. You'll have a tablet that works with a $72 fix instead of a $51 temper tantrum AND you will done it all in about 30 minutes instead of 2 hours!

Did you break your 2012 Nexus screen? This is the part you are looking for!
I broke my 2012 Nexus a whole 2 months after I received it as a gift. I did my research and learned that in order to fix it I would need the screen with the digitizer attached. Back then the price for the parts I needed exceeded $90 so I decided to just use my Nexus 7 with a mouse + OTG cable instead. I later bought the new 2013 Nexus 7 and kept my 2012 but hardly used it. I couldn't justify spending so much on replacement parts when the new one was just a few dollars more.A few months passed and I was happy with my 2013 Nexus 7 but I hated that I had a good tablet just sitting there rotting away. I decided to check out Amazon and to my surprise found this product for under $55 dollars, it was time to fix my tablet. I ordered it on Monday and it arrived on Thursday with really good packaging. As soon as I got home I did a quick google search and found sites (ifixit.com) that give you step-by-step instructions on how to replace the screen. In less than an hour my tablet was whole again and fully functional. The screen and digitizer works perfectly and I couldn't be happier. This truly was a great purchase.Good luck if you are fixing your screen and be very careful. Take it slow and steady and you should be able to fix your tablet in no time.

Good product, great response from seller...
First review...we have two tablets and the screens broke within two days of each other. We ordered these for replacement screens. The first one didn't work. We then installed the second one in the second tablet and it did work. Before we closed everything up we used the components of the first tablet with the new working screen and the first tablet worked fine so I think it's fair to say the screen is defective. I've contacted the seller and will follow up with the results....2 weeks later I'm amending my review. Customer service was quick to respond when I sent out an inquiry via Amazon. They offered a suggestion to trouble shoot another common problem which I did and it corrected the screen problem. We had a bad flex cable and when I installed the the working screen with the other tablet I used the flex cable from the working tablet so I had no way of knowing that was the problem. The seller suggested I test it and he was right. Ordered a new cable and now both screens work. Like I said seller was quick to respond and willing to take the screen back.

I Can't Believe I Rescued My Tablet from the Dead
I am really excited that for $50 (well, plus another $5 for the flat LCD cable I also replaced) I was able to make my beloved, but damaged Nexus 7 as good as new. This replacement screen actually looks brighter than the old one. There are a couple of special steps you need to know about.First, those darn screws are very small and love to jump onto the floor, never to be seen again. You need every one so be extra careful to put them where you can retrieve them. Print out the page on IFixit that shows you the screws to remove. Second, the zero force insertion sockets (zifs) are tricky if you haven't encountered them before. Watch the YouTube video multiple times until you catch the trick of opening the latch and inserting the flat cables. Finally, taking the old screen off of the bezel requires JUST ENOUGH heat to loosen the adhesive. Buy some of that adhesive tape Amazon shows to attach the new screen. The joy that comes from being able to rehabilitate an old friend like my Nexus 7 is well worth the cost and anxiety I invested in the replacement parts.

It works with my 2012 Nexus 7, but has several issues.
It works with my 2012 Nexus 7. It is not nearly as good as the original screen however; The main problem being it is much more sensitive to fingerprints. I have to clean it constantly because of this. It also has a thin dead zone at the very bottom of the screen. The dead zone does not impede normal use but if I have the tablet inverted I can not use the pull down menus from that edge of the screen. Lastly, the screen flickers regularly when the auto brightness adjusts itself. Most of these things are just minor annoyances but I did not have to deal with any of them when my tablet still had its original screen. The replacement process is also something to consider. My friend did the replacement for me (while I watched) and it is seriously not easy to do. You either have to have prior experience with replacing screens or thoroughly do your research and take it slow. That being said, considering the work of replacing it or the cost of paying someone to replace it, I don't think I would buy it again if I were in the same situation. I would probably just go ahead and get the new Nexus 7 instead.

I installed it and all was good until I found dead pixels on the screen
Digitizer and screen arrived as promised. I installed it and all was good until I found dead pixels on the screen. I can't return it because uninstalling it will crack the screen due to the glue that holds it down. :(
