Logitech Pure-Fi 2 vs Altec Lansing iMT620
OK, I didn't see this particular comparison or any reviews that could convince me one way or the other. I tested both of these extensively at Best Buy with both volumes cranked so I could get a clear picture of the differences. The first things I did notice was a bit more bass coming from the logitech, but it didnt seem to turn up as loud as the Altec. After switching to different music styles, from classic rock, to metal, to rap I started to notice some things. At first the lack of top end volume I thought was going to be the end for the logitech for me. I started to feel like the Lansing was the one I wanted purely because the volume turned up louder. I was at such an impasse I decided I needed both of them at home to test them in the environment I plan to use them in rather than a 50,000 sq ft warehouse with 20 ft high ceilings (BestBuy)After giving both a full charge I dove in at home. At home I cranked up some rap initially just to get a clear picture on the range of bass for each. The bass was quite a bit more noticeable on the logitech, with the altec being slightly better for the mids and highs. It still seemed the altec could get a bit louder, but now that I was in my house, the logitech seemed plenty loud at its max. I did notice the mids and highs were less noticeble on the Logitech, but not so much that I really cared. After switching back and forth several times with all kinds of music the logitech was starting to be my clear favorite. I really liked the depth, the bass coming out of such a small box is pretty crazy, if you have a bass heavy song, it literally shakes the whole player. Keep in mind I'm speaking in relative terms here, this is not a 12 inch subwoofer. I started to feel like the Altec was so loud mainly because it had more emphasis on Treble. Ultimately I picked the Logitech because overall, I liked the design a bit better, I liked the case it comes with, I like the plug in that lets you wrap the cord around it and it sits nicely in the cradle when stowed in the case, the battery claims twice the length of time in the logitech over the altec 10 hours to 5 respectivly. I have yet to confirm the 10 hours, but will update this review when I do. Then for sound, I just decided that the volume issue became less of an issue when in a smaller environment, and the extra bass coming out of it made the music sound a bit more full to me.This is in no way a knock on the Altec, because I did determine in my mind that these were a close match to be the best "portable" players on the market, made by the two companies with the most experience making these devices. Truthfully, the Altec in my mind had the nod for a while in the beginning because it really did sound good all the way through the volume range. On build quality I would say if you are rough on your stuff the logitech probably will be the tougher of the two players. The speaker grills are a tough metal, the outside a hard plastic, its like a long brick basically, the only weakness I saw was the buttons are pretty cheapo. The altec has a nice design and cool handle to hold it up, and buttons are excellent, nice and big and easy to push, but the metal grill covering the entire front of the player seemed flimsier than the logitech and I could see that if it took a good jab by something it could be dented, I dont see that happening on the logitech. The Altec does had a nice LCD screen that displays the mode its in, the song thats playing which I wish the logitech had, AND it has an FM radio which I thought would be nice for game day, I read many reviews saying that the FM radio's reception was excellent. SO, I almost kept both of them, but the fact that there was so many more pluses to the lgogitech, in my mind, and for my purposes, I decided to go with it, because my ultimate goal was to have a comletely portable player for on the go, logitech with the longer battery life fit that bill better and was a bit smaller in size, then I would purchase a separate stationary player that rarely moves from the bathroom, Im thinking the Logitech pure-fi elite or bose sound dock for my stationary player. I hope this helps anyone that is laboring over the decision between these two. Feel free to leave comments if you have questions I will answer them.

Excellent Speaker System for iPhone 3g
As an owner of an iPhone, I was sad to find that the GSM interference produced by the phone produced insane noises when using my nearly 4 year-old JBL onstage (which has been a solid performer for years). As I went on the search for a replacement I did a ton of research and decided on this unit.I was initially hesitant to get a sound product from Logitech - but I am glad to report that my hesitation was unwarranted. I am very pleased with the sound and build quality of this unit.I am also geeked because I can leave my iPhone in its case (switcheasy colors) when I place it on the dock connector. I was less than thrilled by the idea of removing my case just to listen to some music. Here is a list of pros and cons:Pros:1. Sound quality. I've put this system through some hip-hop, rock, alternative, classical, acoustic, vocal and other types of music and it has come out great.2. Build quality. The form factor is excellent. The included case and iPod adapters are cool as well.3. Price/Performanc ratio. There are a number of options available for the iPhone 3g now. And I feel this is the best when considering price. Other offerings from JBL are decent units - but the logitech is available for far less money.4. Portability. The integrated battery is great. I used to relocate my onstage on our porch and had to always have it near a plug. The logitech's battery makes it far more portable and flexible.5. Bass response. This is technically part of number 1, but I am very surprised at the depth of the sound. Drums don't sound anemic and the overall lows are top notch.Cons.Not too much to report. Overall, this is exactly what you'd want in a purchase. It delivers on all counts: sound quality, price, features and build quality.I think Logitech has a real winner here. One final note. The pics on Amazon's site don't really do this unit justice. It is a good looking piece of kit. The pics use an ipod classic that make the unit look dated. I was initially hesitant to order due to this, but I am very glad that I got over those reservations.Overall, if you are in the market for an iPhone speaker set there is nothing really negative to consider with this unit. You get what you pay for and that is thankfully a good thing.

Don't buy it, the bad reviews are true, you won't be the lucky one!
I liked the small footprint of this speaker dock and its portability. I really liked that it charged my iPod, had 4 speakers, had controls right on the unit. I loved the sound it put out for a speaker in this price range. I also loved that it had a remote that not only controlled volume and switching tracks and playlists but also accessed the menu button so I could go to other apps on my iPod. Seemingly the perfect speaker dock. Right?I read the good reviews and the bad. I have always been very easy on electronic equipment and when others get stuff that doesn't work right, I'm usually lucky and get stuff that works great. Then I wonder what the heck everyone was complaining about. So I ordered this. MISTAKE! MISTAKE! MISTAKE!After only 2 weeks the unit started turning itself off randomly. Sometimes after just one song, sometimes after a half hour or so. If you use the buttons on the top of the unit to turn it back on, they are very unresponsive. I had to bang on the ON button several times every time I had to turn it back on until my finger was starting to get kind of sore. It's as if the unit prefers to be off. At other times it just suddenly mutes the volume, even mid song and you have to turn it up. You can read the other reviews about how to try to reset it, how the buttons will break after a few months, how the remote stops working, how after a short time the non replaceable battery will hold less and less of a charge and your portable speakers are no longer portable. I believe it all! As another reviewer stated, all the good reviews are from people who haven't yet started experiencing these problem; their time will come. Thumbs down for Logitech. They know about all these problems. They should just recall the product. But then they would lose money.Buy this product only if you enjoy repacking purchases and taking them to the Post Office or have masochistic tendencies and are looking forward to trying to get warranty support from Logitech over their automated phone support system. (Be aware that most extended warranties do not cover problems with the remote control as it is an electronic accessory)Oh, I forgot a plus. The wall jack has a really nice wrap around feature to help keep your cords under control.

It's what you would hope for.
Having read many reviews and tried many other systems before owning the Pure-Fi 2, I will list the following concerns as the most common for prospective buyers, in descending order of importance to me:1) COMPATIBILITY with MP3 player, in this case, iPod and iPhone products.2) PORTABILITY: rechargeable battery life, charge speed, size and weight of unit.3) SOUND QUALITY, which would include frequency response and, more specifically with these small systems, bass reproduction.4) BUILD QUALITY5) USER FRIENDLINESS. can most consumers actually operate the unit without a thorough study of the instructions?6) AESTHETICS.Here are my answers to these general concerns:1) I have used my Pure-Fi with 3 versions of iPod Nano (Gens 2, 4, 5) and an iPod Classic, 80GB. Operation is fluid in every case. From other reviews, I understand that the Pure-Fi also works well with all 3 iPhone generations. Via the analog input, you can connect almost any type of playback system, provided that it has a mini 1/8" output or that you use a mini adaptor. Of course, the unit is designed for iPod playback.2) Battery lasts a long time and does not deteriorate quickly, practically as advertised, which is a surprise for portable products from any maker. The Pure-Fi 2 comes with a great soft-case, which allows you to store the cradle adapter, A/C adapter, remote control, and even an iPod nano...all in its compact volume.3) A few reviewers complained about the weak bass response. It is a common complaint for portable systems.Even with the most modern speaker technology, low-frequency response is proportional to driver and magnet size, as well as power consumption. So, to get significant bass response out of a system, you would sacrifice battery life as well as unit size and weight. I have heard over 20 iPod systems and the only ones with significant bass handling are non-portable (A/C-only) units, most notably, Bose, Chestnut Hill, etc. Let's also note that besides sacrificing portability, you need to consider spending upwards of $300 if you insist on Hi-Fi sound.4) My first complaint of only two that I have included in my review is that, after a few months of moderate use in mostly one location, three of the operation buttons started to crack. One of the cracks bore through and I had to hold the button in place with scotch tape. I think that it may be due to the ambient humidity in my home, as it is in the mountains. Regardless, I have many electronics here and this is the only time that something like this has happened. Logitec sent me a new, replacement system.5) This Pure-Fi 2 is easy to use...almost intuitive, I would say.6) It looks good. That was my take on the PRODUCT.As for the review on LOGITEC and their customer support department:The replacement that I mention at the end of point 4 was obtained after a long and "difficult" correspondence with what seems to be a very disorganized company, something contrasting significantly with their production of quality products. They lost requested files that had been confirmed as received. They issued 3 or 4 case numbers for the same case, despite my being very organized with the situation. I was not impressed with the month-long process, but, I have to include that, in the end, THEY DELIVERED, which is not always the case with large-scale manufacturers. Kudos for that.CONCLUSIONI have tried a few other portable/rechargeable products from Altec Lansing and JBL. The Logitec PF2 is my favorite one. I would look past the few "cons" mentioned, I would recommend it, and I would buy it again if there were no newer and improved versions.

Great. Works as advertised. Won't blow your eardrums with volume...
IPOD dock works with my ipod nano 3g. There is some confusion on the box which implies that an ipod 3g will not work but I think they are not talking about the ipod nano 3g but an actual 1st to 3rd gen ipod as my nano works great.Remote is FANTASTIC and feels actually a bit simpler than using the IPOD for me.I compared this to the altec lansing IM600 which I have used as well. The sound is better and louder on the IM600. However the IM600 did not work ipod nano 3g.The sound quality on this is quite pleasing. The volume is adequate. I used it in my living room and my wife who is a teacher uses it for her classes (dimensions 15x15). The volume was nice and clear and could be heard all around the living room. However, it is not a party boom box and it cannot get uncomfortably loud. So volume is adequate but will never get LOUD. The bass is there but there is an obvious cut-off to prevent distortion. So you won't get low bass from this. However, you will definitely get the drum beats with no problems. Whatever bass that's not cut off is there and quite adequate. The highs are also not fantastic but they don't feel harsh. The mid-range is GREAT. Lot of detail (especially for 2 inch speakers). Please note though that those big speakers on either side of the ipod are not actually speakers but passive drivers which have no power going through them. The actual speakers are tiny and are the ones on either side. This will sound crazy but I have the sennheisser HD600 headphones and their drivers are noticeably bigger than the speakers on this. However, it doesn't seem to affect the sound quality.I have not been able to distort these speakers. You will always be running this thing at max volume, and at that max there IS no distortion. I feel that this unit can actually play a good bit louder but it is purposely limited to decrease distortion. The awkward looking mounts are actually a surprising star of this unit. They have really good anti-slip grips. The swivel out but do not take much room at all. Also the system is designed to lean back and if you look at it, it's done in such a way that it is very hard to topple this thing. It is very stable where you set it. Not easy to topple it foward, backward or sideways. The buttons on the unit are nice and light up depending on the feature being used, but they are a little stiff so you have to press hard to make it work. The rechargeable battery is GREAT. This will save you money! Minus point as it doesn't have a radio, CD player. Also another negative for no LED display.Portability is also fantastic. The carrying case is great. The AC adapter is designed so that you can wrap the wire around it and store everything in one soft case. It's very quick to setup. It is also VERY light. I could carry this in one hand easily. My wife changes classrooms every 45 minutes so quick setup and portability is important and this thing is just designed to be RIDICULOUSLY easy to use for that function. In short: volume is adequate. Portability is good. Very pleasing sound. I would recommend this product.

Great if you get one that works out of the box.
My advice, if you buy this make sure you charge it and play it until the battery runs out to make sure you didn't get a defective model.I originally purchased this item in August for my girlfriend's birthday. After reading the specs I decided that this model was affordable and had everything she wanted; ipod dock, ipod charger, great sound, rechargeable battery, remote controller, and a carrying case. Once it arrived I charged it completely used it for a good ten minutes to make sure everything worked, and everything seemed to check out. However debuting it for my girlfriend to use at her birthday we found that it would just turn off after 10 minutes, even when plugged in. I tried everything from updating itunes, updating my ipod, and even just trying to use the speakers for my computer - no matter what it would just die after 10 minutes regardless of a full charge.Amazon made the exchange process very smooth and actually had the replacement to me within a day - before I even had the chance to send the broken one back. This new speaker works fine and does everything it says it should. My advice, if you buy this make sure you charge it and play it till the battery runs out to make sure you didn't get a defective model.

Awesome
A couple of people seemed curious about whether or not this works with the iPhone 3GS. Yes. Yes it does. Very nicely, btw.I've used a couple of these iPod/iPhone boomboxes/speaker systems, and this is by far my favorite. I've heard "slightly" better sound quality from other, vastly more expensive units, but the sound on this is surprisingly good. It's incredibly portable, easy to use, "durable enough," and the sound is great! Not to mention, it's fairly cheap. Also, the aesthetic matches my personal home design. The remote is great, the carrying case it comes with is great. Also, the system comes with like... fiftyeleven (WOW that's a big number!) different "docks" for the different models of iPods and iPhones. My iPhone 3GS that I also have a case on, and it fits PERFECTLY without using any of the different docks! So, it basically has all of your bases covered. The only thing I can be nitpicky about is that there is no way to tell what your volume is. There's definitely "louder" and a "quieter" buttons on the system and the remote, and it definitely gets louder or... um... not as loud. But there's no actual volume numbers to look at. It's just kind of odd.Their readout for how the system's battery is charging or if it's charging your iPod/iPhone is oddly specific and useful, though.Anyway, so far, I love it and would highly recommend it.

Great product for the price!
This is a great little unit for the price. Even though it's small, the sound is really good. I'm not an aficionado, but I did want a good, clear, balanced sound and this provides just that. I like the design, especially where portability is concerned. It's easy to take with me anywhere I want to go. The stand folds in, the cord has a decent wind up system and the plugs fold in so they don't snag on things. The case is also a decent quality case that looks like it should hold up pretty well. The battery life is possibly a bit less than the manufacturer states, but not much. The only negative I have is the remote. It's quite cheaply made and I'm just hoping it will stand up to being moved around. At least you can order a replacement for not much money should it break. I've also had good experiences with Logitech's service dept. in the past, so it doesn't worry me that much.I'd like to add that the remote does not work at all if it's cool and damp. The unit also seems to go into standby mode randomly in those conditions. Inside in normal room temperature it works just fine, but anything under 65 F seems to affect the unit. Since I'm not really planning on using it outside, except maybe in summer, this isn't a problem, but if your looking for something you want to use in your garage while working on your car, you might want to consider something a little more suited to the conditions.
