Perfect addition!
Perfect addition to our GE Ice machine! My household loves the nugget ice, we were going through CASES of water bottles, multiple times a week. With this added tank, I can buy gallon jugs of water and get a couple days out of it instead of 6-8 water bottles, daily. This is a more affordable option that is less time consuming and less impact on the environment. Idiot proof! Great addition to your Opal!
While I still wish I could hard plumb my Opalinto my water supply at the house, this is a great alternative and addition to your Opal ice maker!!Not sure what the negative reviews about leaks are about, but honestly, it’s literally idiot proof. You take the tank off, unscrew the cap, fill the tank, flip it upside down, and put it back on the base. There is a one way valve, so it’s not like you’re flipping a water cooler jug over, the water won’t go everywhere. It matches the Opal perfectly, the tank is sized perfect enough that I can fit it into my sink and fill it using my Instant hot/cold tap which gives me filtered water, and it’s way easier than having to pull the ice tray all the way out, sticking a pitcher of water into the Opal and filling it a few times a week.Installation literally took 30 seconds. It took longer for me to open the Amazon shipping box, un-box the tank, and pull my Opal far enough out from under the cabinet to reach the hose than it did to actually connect it.It’s a bit pricey, but I got my Opal brand new on clearance at Home Depot for $225, so it was easier for me to justify the $70, but honestly, it’s money well spent!!

Best Buy!
I don’t do a lot of reviews, but with the amount of investment and how in depth we researched this product before buying, I wanted to put in my 2 cents to help others in their decision. First off, very happy with this purchase. We just bought a new fridge and it makes little to no ice so we needed a solution, presenting Opal. We have had her only a couple of days but she makes ice like a champ. We let her run 24 hours a days and she makes great ice. I was concerned about the ice being too soft but it’s not, even with the holding container not being refrigerated it works fantastically. We have stored up some extra bags of ice for when we have company. When we empty the tank I am amazed at how quickly Opal refills it. I was concerned about water when you pull the holding container out and yes there is water but we are just mindful of that as we take the container out to empty into bags. I love the way my water stays cold in my yeti cup without my ice turning to a block. The Opal ice keeps a nice constant consistency as it naturally melts. I could go on and on about this product but the take away is, if you are looking for a personal ice maker this is the one for you! Notice we purchased the side tank for our Opaland I think that adds to the ease of use and enjoyment for this product.

Big improvement in functionality!
Yes, it is pretty expensive for what amounts to just being a plastic jug. However, if you're buying this it's because you also own a $500+ ice maker because you like "good ice"-- so we pretty much have to surrender the moral high ground when it comes to complaining about 'value' and 'price'. :-)For me, this really makes the Opal so much nicer to use! The Opal Side Tank is *much* larger than the built-in tank on the main unit and it is additional to the existing capacity, so finally I'm not seeing the 'low water' blue ring ALL THE TIME (and probably saving a lot of wear-and-tear on the water pump running on a dry reservoir). Since the side tank is clear it's immediately obvious at a glance as to whether you need to add water which is much better than pulling the bin and trying to see inside the black interior of the Opal Ice Maker itself. Lastly, as an added bonus, the side tank eliminates the spill-prone task of (awkwardly) trying to pour water from a large container in to the Opal base to refill it.All in all, it's a 'luxury' priced add-on to a 'luxury' priced ice-maker and is well worth the money if you use a lot of ice and hate the frequent refill schedule on the stock Opal Ice Maker.

A must have, unfortunately
This works exactly as advertised, so that's the reason for the 5 stars. It helps keep the Opal filled with water and operating well. The thing that I dislike is that this is, in my opinion, an absolutely necessary addition to the Opal, instead of being an optional convenience. Without the reservoir, it was incredibly easy to have the main water area run dry by just using a few scoops of ice without refilling the water. This has a side effect of the Opal not really being able to effectively keep the ice frozen (because it has to wait for a lot of ice to melt before it can recycle it as frozen again), as well as allowing the Opal to make horrendous noise. With the reservoir that doesn't happen. I dislike being made to feel like I *had* to buy an accessory to make something work correctly.

My wife loves it!
She used to fill up the ice maker in the evening because she never knew how much water was in the reservoir and didn't want it to go dry, so we bought the side tank. The side tank is great in that you can see how much water is in it, and it takes 5 times as long (or more) to run out if not longer. It also matches the Profile perfectly. The only downside is you can't add water by pouring it in the top. You have to turn it upside down, and remove the cap to refill it. Then put it back on and back in. Seems like that could have been done differently, but all in all, we still love having it.
