College Bound Again!
Love, love, love! I bought this as a Christmas gift for my younger brother. He's a junior in high school, and recently decided he didn't want to attend college because it was too hard. I wanted to give him something that he could refer to throughout his journey, something that would help 'guide' him through those harder moments. I also paired it with a copy of my college transcript (I had a few bumps throughout the road myself!) to show him it's okay to stumble and fall. As long as you get back up.It was an encouraging gift, and most importantly, a very practical one. The tips are quick and organized enough that my brother doesn't feel overwhelmed skimming through them. The different sections of the book are logical and make it easy to jump to a set of tips most relevant to what you need. Now, he's ready to study again for his ACTs, and start planning out school visits for this summer. Overall, this was without a doubt one of the best gifts under the tree this year!

Perfect for a college freshmen (NOT during COVID)
We got this for my niece who was heading off to her first year in college as a freshmen. I had it sent straight to her with a note and she had no issues with the shipping or anything. The biggest mistake we did make is sending it to her during COVID. She informed us many of the tips were helpful and really funny. But unfortunately, many didn't apply to her due to social distancing at her college. We're hoping that maybe the book will be more relatable during her sophomore year of college. Would recommend when there isn't social distancing in place!

Special Gift from Grandma
This is a remarkably readable book for young people ready to enter college. The advice is concise, but often presented in a humorous fashion. Because it isn't a wordy tome, the book invites readers to read just a little bit more, and the topics covered are important for consideration. The fresh advice covers topics today's high school students probably haven't though about, and it may surprise them to learn that there are often a variety of ways to address a problem. The format invites scanning, and that approach will provide insight into issues that weren't encountered at home or in local schools. All the rumors about the freshman fifteen, roommate problems, teachers' expectations, being home sick, making new friends are covered. The advice is to the point and worthy of consideration.1001 Things Every College Student Needs to Know is a great gift to a grandchild who will soon be attending college.Orders from Amazon come quickly, and the books are available as needed.

Very helpful for this returning student!
I attended 2 semesters of communty college right after high school and dropped out of both of them because I wasn’t ready and didn’t know what I wanted to do. Now that I know what I want to do, this book made me feel ready to take on every aspect of college that had scared me away in the past. I loved the sections about faith, finance, and mental health especially. If you are apprehensive about college (like I was), whether you’re fresh out of high school or returning to college after more than a few gap years, give this book a try. At the very least, it will be real with you and make you feel a little more prepared for the realities (and rewards!) of going to school!

Excellent Book with Practical Advice!
This book offers very sound and well-thought-out advice! You can open this book to any page and learn important points that will help any student in college. I didn't find anything in this book which made me feel that the advice was simply the author's point-of-view. And if it is, this is a very knowledgeable man whose words ring true. This is a great book for anybody about to enter college, someone who is already in college or any parent. I have read this book from cover to cover, as well as "1001 Things Every Teen Should Know Before They Leave Home". Both are excellent and would make great gifts for any teenager or parent. Buy the book and decide for yourself.

Take the title literally...
I have a high school senior and thought this would be a perfect stocking stuffer. I read the reviews and thought perfect, yes, he needs this now! I must say I was somewhat disappointed. Yes, it is small. Very similar to those small desktop daily word or motivational calendars. That's not the problem, the issue is the book binding...you're hesitant to open the book entirely for fear of tearing it at the seam. Next is the presentation of the information. It is literally, 1001 things that the author feels every college student needs to know. There are no details, explanations, or relating stories. Just bottom line statements/pointers you should know. Some of the things are what you'd believe to be common sense...but they really aren't, not to teenagers entering college anyway. And it is for this reason I'd recommend it for students entering or in their junior year of high school. It's helpful, but just not what I was looking for.

Was disappointed at the generic, condescending tips
Not as impressed as I thought I would be. Despite the high reviews on Amazon.com, this book is awfully generic for the most part (I suppose it focussed too much on quantity and not quality). The author gives very, very common-sense tips, to the point where he comes off as condescending to the reader. For example, Tip #60 is "You need to know the term major has nothing to do with the military." or Tip #998 "You need to know if you don't make a baby, you'll graduate." The book is filled with a plethora of tips that seem to question the basic intelligence of the college-bound reader. There is one positive aspect though - the book show some tough love for the reader, and tells the reader as it is, without any fluff. E.g., the author is very blunt with the negative consequences of skipping class and/or frivolous spending. But I wouldn't recommend this book at all - buy another book, like The Freshman Survival Guide or How to Win at College by Cal Newport
