Very detailed
We used this book to plan our trip to the greek islands. The information is very comprehensive and the pictures are great. We couldnt go to all the Greek islands but we selected the few we wanted to see based on the details given in this book. We were quite happy with our decision.Excellent purchase. We're almost making it a 1-book per holiday and our bookshelf is now a constant reminder of our fun holidays!

Outstanding Travel Guide to the Greek Islands
Took this book with me on my trip through the Greek Islands and found it very informative. I liked how it addressed the various aspects of the whole Greek culture, then and now. The suggested sites always proved accurate and worth visiting. Liked the book's photography. Recommend it as your travel partner to the Greek Islands (and Fantasy Travel to coordinate your ferry travels).

Easy to use!
This book was perfect for my trip to the Greek Islands. It is well organized and picks up the highlights very well. It touches on Athens where we spent two days. I definitely used it a lot as it is compact to carry with good maps. As we were on a tour, I did not use the restaurant or hotel recommendations but relied on it when I was taking pictures. It is a good guide book.

Jack of all trades, master of none
I was a little disappointed with this guidebook. The information contained within seemed to be geared more towards checking off the boxes for covering each and every island, with little actual substance for the majority of islands. We visited two islands: Rhodes and Santorini. The guidebook contained far and away more information for Rhodes than for any other island, which was nice; unfortunately, that dearth of information came at a price of mere snippets for several other locations, including Santorini.Only one page covering the entire island of Santorini, one of the most touted destinations in the Greek Islands. Granted, Santorini isn't huge, but come on, DK Eyewitness, surely your intended audience has at least considered visiting one of the most romantic destinations on the planet. Shouldn't you give us a bit more to go on than just one page?We ended up using internet searches to get real suggestions about what to do and where to stay on Santorini instead of using this guidebook, and left the book itself in the common area of our hotel. Hopefully someone else (who can't get on the internet) will get more out of this guide than than we did.

When going to a new place, study the DK Eyewitness Travel books first
These guides are very heavy in weight, but they have so many pictures and diagrams that if studied will alert the traveler as to what to look for and recognize when traveling. The DK travel books are much more fun to look at than a Frommer's.

This guide is beautiful to look at because of its gorgeous pictures
This guide is beautiful to look at because of its gorgeous pictures. And I found it invaluable in planning our day-to-day explorations of the Greek islands on our 22-day cruise. Each night before we landed, I'd study up on each site we were about to visit and discuss my findings with my wife. As a result, we were able to see exactly what we wanted to see and had excellent experiences in every place we visited. My only problem with this guide is that it provides little narrative, unlike the Rick Steves guides I'm more used to using.

Excellent travel book
Most helpful with maps, pictures and highlights! Print is a little small but this book is informative with main sites to see. We have other Eyewitness travel books and I highly recommend them!

Best guide to the Greek Islands
I've four or five different guides to the Greek Islands. I found this by googling 'indigenous architecture'. It has details about different methods of construction on different groups of islands, and the reasons for the materials used. Also very detailed guide to finding accommodation.

Not Worth The Money
I purchased this book along with the Lonely Planet Greek Islands travel book. Although the reviews weren't great, the title enticed me to take a gamble. After receiving it, I knew that it was not what I was looking for. I thought this travel book would be from a point of view of people who have traveled to the Greek Islands, and while I did enjoy the pictures that are in it, it lacks so much information on practical items. It is more of a illustrated book on the main attractions on the more "popular" locations, and a section in the back listing some accommodations and places to eat. The section on how to actually get to the Islands and navigate between is basically nonexistent. I sincerely hope anyone planning their Greek Island getaway doesn't rely solely on this one book.

An encyclopedia, not a travel guide
Packed with info but doesn’t do a very good job of differentiating between the islands. There is a crowded little chart at the beginning comparing their strengths and there is a lot of useful background info on their history but ultimately both the writing and photos get quite repetitive. As you can imagine, there are beaches and rocky hills and tavernas and ancient ruins and orthodox churches on most of these islands. A simple listing of these will tell you very little about the character of the place. The editorial motto seeming to be “throw in a bit of everything” instead of curating the facts and images to reveal the unique charm of each island, that which makes it different from all the rest. Without an editorial voice and In an effort to be comprehensive it just becomes an encyclopedia, not a travel guide.
