Nice upgrade
A lot of homes built during the 1980s and 1990a have carriage-style ceiling lights very similar to this one. The originals are cheap, and the plastic sockets crack over time. This is a nice improvement. Somewhat larger, brighter, and more attractive. One tip: your original bulbs may not fit in this one as it is completely enclosed while the older versions are open bottom. Measure the clearance before you buy bulbs. I had a handyman install it, but he showed me what to do and it's pretty simply if you're willing to get up on a foot ladder. Don't throw out the fuzzy material that appears to be packaging. It's actually insulation that goes between the lights and the ceiling.

Pretty Shade for a Fair Price
I have been looking everywhere for a flush-mount fixture that didn't look like a boob light. This one does have a "nipple" terminal to screw onto the bolt to keep the shade on, but the octagonal shape keeps it from being all builder-basic and ugly. Installation was fairly straightforward, though I'd like to mention this has the new type of wiring that says "minimum 90c," or something similar--sorry, it's already in the ceiling now and I don't remember the exact wording, but I read online that this rating makes the wiring incompatible with wiring in homes built before 1985. My house was built in the late 80s, so I didn't have a problem with that, but some others might. I took off a star because the light bulb type is not very clear in the instructions--it's a G16 1/2 CHANDELIER base bulb. All I could find is a label that said G 16 1/2 on the fixture itself, which resulted in two trips to the hated big-box store to try to buy light bulbs. I shop on Amazon for a reason--I hate Wal-Mart. :) The instructions were also very vague. If you've installed a light before, it's nothing new, but I needed a refresher on what to do with the copper (grounding) wire if I didn't have a grounding wire to attach it to, and I had to refer to the trusted interwebs for that advice instead of what came in the package--irritating. The shade also rattled a little bit when I lifted it from the box, causing me to check all the welds carefully, but they all seem secure, so I don't know why the glass was rattling. However, that's not really a big deal once it's hung where it won't be touched. The light from this fixture is diffused and casts lots of pretty shadows from the beveled glass/metal construction interplay. I wouldn't buy this if you're looking for bright, clear light, but it was just right for my small side hall. Very pleased with ease of installation and quality at this price point.

Great light! At First
I was glad to find this light, because it is the same design as the one I replaced. LED was a great addition, or so I thought. It has been nearly 3 years since I bought it, and the bulbs are burning out. LED bulbs are supposed to last a lot longer than this. Today, I replaced a bulb because one of the LED bulbs was getting very dim. No sooner had I replaced the globe than another bulb started flickering. I replaced them with standard bulbs, so at least the fixture will accept them. Another thing I noticed when I initially installed the fixture, is that the LED lights were much brighter than the regular bulbs. I prefer a softer light. I just expected the LED bulbs to last a lot longer.

Check the desired dimentions
Be sure to measure your existing unit's dimensions!!! ... I didn't as I 'assumed' it would be a "like kind" replacement ... this one isn't as 'deep' as was my original so a bit of "jury rigging" was necessary to make the replacement work ... other than that it looks and works well ... it is, after all, just a ceiling fixture.

As Advertised
No surprise and a good price. Looks great. Insulation bat gets in the way when threading the two screws/bolts through. Wish the opening through the isolation was taped off to make it easier. But this problem is the same with all light fixtures of this type.
