For the stage. This winner of the Newbery Medal and the National Book Award features Stanley Yelnats, a kid who is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnats. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the warden makes the boys "build character" by spending all day, every day, digging holes five feet wide and five feet deep. It doesn't take long for Stanley to realize there's more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake: the warden is looking for something. Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment-and redemption.. Review: about the book and what I loved about it - I loved the book. The book was about someone help ing a friend in need. It teaches you a lesson Review: Four Stars - A very short, crisp and honest novel

Play not as good as novel.
The theatrical version of the story has no where near as much description as the original novel. Also, it seemed disjointed.there seems to be no distinction made between important and unimportant characters and settings.

Great read, makes you think about what is the next thing to happen.
Really enjoyed the characters and their stories. Makes me want to cheer for them. Sorry the story was short I wanted to read more.

Don’t buy this
I loved the movie and was excited to finally read the book. Two words. BIG MISTAKE. Honestly, I guess I only have myself to blame...I should’ve read the description. This is a SCREENPLAY, not the original novel. It was a bit deceiving, to say the least. Based on other reviews, I think it’s clear I’m not the only one who made the same mistake. If you’re looking for the novel, keep searching, because this ain’t it. Don’t be me, make a better choice.
