My longest stretch is a good 6', and that did not present any problems. It's pretty easy to get good tension with these turnbuckles.

Can I use this to fix a saggin wood gate

That is what it is designed for. However the size that I bought; the cable kept snapping so I ended up using All of the hardware with a chain instead of the cable. Works great!
