Still the king
I have the micro version (which is the same board in a smaller enclosure). But this one is more better because it's more bigger. It sounds amazing like a Big Muff should. If you want a little one to fit between 15 other distortion pedals on your board, get the micro. However, there is nothing quite like the satisfaction you get when stomping on a full-size fuzz Big Muff to unleash that massive wall of fuzz.

Classic pedal!
Great fuzz pedal. I bought this to recreate Ronnie Montrose tones (mainly songs from Mr. Bones). This pedal has a long history, look into it and buy it if it fits your needs.

Gobs of gain and sonic brilliance
As Josh from JHS put it this pedal has “gobs of gain…” it sounds incredible and is worth every penny! It’s a very big pedal but worth the space.

The Classic Distortion still sounds great!
My brother had one of the original Big Muff Pi pedals, the one that had weird surplus TV knobs on it, he bought it back in the early 70's and sold it in 2010 for almost $800 to a collector. All I can say is, that guy really wanted an original one bad. This one sounds virtually the same except the taper of the tone pot is different so you need to have the tone knob at about 2 o'clock on this one to equal about 11 o'clock on the first generation model. Is this one identical in tone? I don't know, it's really darned close and for $80 instead of $800 I think it is a bonafide deal. The quality of construction seems a little better on the new one, there is a door for the battery, no more disassembling the unit to change the 9-volt battery. There is now an LED Effect-Active indicator light, I like that a lot. I also like the external power input jack so I can run it with a wall wart power supply. This is one of a half dozen distortion pedals I own and use. I like the way this one does not kill the attack of my pick, it still sounds musical even through the buzz of square waves. I'm using it with a new Fulltone Tube Tape Echo with makes anything sound good. This distortion is really unique, it's not a Tube Screamer at all, it can get way more buzzy than that. It's not an MXR distortion-plus because your tone still matters with this pedal. All things considered the Big Muff is a unique pedal and cheap enough for anyone to get one and mess with it. Good music to all!

The original and the best.
With the newest version of Electro-Harmonix's iconic Big Muff Pi, once again made in New York City, they have returned to the original "finest harmonic distortion-sustain device developed to date". The sound is outrageous, and any guitarist who has been relying on the Russian-made Sovtek Big Muff is in for a sonic treat. The venerable 12AX7(EH) twin triode vacuum tube is still made in Russia, but the Russians have been the kings of vacuum tube technology for several decades now. The Big Muff's melodic tone is a deep tapestry of harmonics building on harmonics, powerful distortion sound that will blow you away whether you crank your amp up to 11, or are practicing quietly. There are less expensive distortion boxes, almost all purely digital. The big Muff Pi outshines the rest by doing one thing, and doing it well. NOTE: If you intend to buy an A/C adapter, there is conflicting information as to which type of plug fits the pedal, and Electro-Harmonix themselves has conflicting information on their website. The power supply most commonly recommended is incorrect. It has a mini phone plug. This plug WILL NOT FIT the socket on the Big Muff. Its socket takes a 2mm hollow plug with center negative. These adapters are made by Electro-Harmonix and Roland, but it can be difficult to figure out which is which on Amazon's site. My recommendation is to stick to the battery until you need an adapter, then bring the Big Muff into a guitar store to make sure.
