''The ultimate Camp statement: it''s good because it''s awful.'' These two classic essays were the first works of criticism to break down the boundaries between ''high'' and ''low'' culture, and made Susan Sontag a literary sensation. Penguin Modern: fifty new books celebrating the pioneering spirit of the iconic Penguin Modern Classics series, with each one offering a concentrated hit of its contemporary, international flavour. Here are authors ranging from Kathy Acker to James Baldwin, Truman Capote to Stanislaw Lem and George Orwell to Shirley Jackson; essays radical and inspiring; poems moving and disturbing; stories surreal and fabulous; taking us from the deep South to modern Japan, New York''s underground scene to the farthest reaches of outer space. Review: Camp is camp - The beautiful world of Camp explained perfectly. Great book for art historians, fashion designers, or those interested in the art form. Review: Statement Piece and a Good Read! - Full-stop: I do not like reading. However, I’m fascinated by the concept of camp and when I heard of this book I had to get it! It is more of an essay-style read so it’s quite analytical, but if you’re interested in the content it’s going to be a fun read regardless. Not going to lie, I understand camp itself in a totally different way now.

I admired Susan Sontag's writing.....see below
I have always admired Susan Sontag......read "notes on camp" a long time ago and decided to read it again and this time I feel she was just "complaining" about the use of word CAMP......to we LGBTQ+ humans camp is a word we use when "something is way over done" and brings smilies to many....

handy format, classic core text
The format is handy and easy to use. Wonderful, essential reading for anyone remotely interested in queer theory or performance. Others have built on it, but it's still VERY VERY relevant. One to recommend if you have students (I do).
