* Great For Baking - Read About Guar & Xanthan Gums *
OK, probably going to sound a little gross here. I developed a SEVERE allergy to GUAR GUM. It is used in practically everything in the stores. Take a look at your labels. Dry mixes. sour cream, ice cream, dressings, cream cheese, bread, crackers, some cheeses, TV dinners and on & on. Most people develop the allergy after repeated exposures. When I discovered I had Celiac Disease, a few years ago, I started doing most of my own baking & Guar Gum was right up there in most of the recipes. It's CHEAP!! That's why nearly all the manufactures use it. It's CHEAP!! But, it's not a natural product and damages your gut. When you develop an allergy, most people develop (painful) sores on them that can lasts for weeks. It was several months before I knew what was causing my problem (and thousands of dollars in insurance and my own money) Over and over I asked the doctors if it could be an "allergy" and over and over they said, "NO!!" Not until I found it myself on the internet, that other people were experiencing the same thing. So, I switched to Xanthan Gum. But, then doctors started advising patients to try to stay away from ALL GUMS. They are fine in their natural state (as beans or whatever), but they are highly processed and they change into something that "isn't OK" The manufacturers are going to tell you, "They're perfectly fine to use." THEY'RE NOT!! I hadn't eaten cream cheese in a few years, because they all had Guar Gum in them. Then, I saw that Philadelphia Cream Cheese (the full fat version) did NOT have Guar Gum, but instead had Xanthan Gum. "OH BOY, I can eat that!!" I immediately bought it, went home and put about 1/3 of it on crackers (made a pig of myself) YUMMY!! Within a few hours I had small sores all over my back and I was nearly screaming in pain. "How is that possible?? I'm not allergic to Xanthan Gum." Then, I found out, that the Food and Drug Administration ALLOWS manufacturers to CHANGE the gum ingredients in the products at any time WITHOUT changing the labeling. That helps the manufacturer's bottom line, because they can list expensive ingredients, but actually use the cheaper ingredients (that people are allergic to.) The FDA doesn't care about the consumer's that actually CONSUME the product. So now, I can't believe what the ingredient list states, because I've found that many other ingredients can be swapped and I have multiple allergies. Sure, I carry Epipens around, but you don't want to have an incident, because some company was too cheap to tell the truth on their label. So, enter Glucomannan (I know, that was a long way to get to here,) This is also known as Konjac Root. You may have already experienced this as Zero Calorie Noodles, Elephant Ear Noodles, Konjac Noodles or Miracle Noodles (among other names.) I don't like anything touted as a "Weight Loss" product and that's not what I'm discussing here. But, if you do use it for that purpose, be sure to drink plenty of water with it and mix it with a little water, Before adding it to your smoothies. WHY? Because, if it Clumps, it can cause an intestinal blockage. Any gum or product like this can do that, but there's no problem if it's mixed well and plenty of fluids are taken.I use this product in ALL my baking needs and in my smoothies (along with my Chia Seeds) I don't use much in my smoothies, only about a teaspoon. I use it in Breads, Desserts, Cookies and on & on. Since I'm baking Gluten Free, it helps take the place of some of the gluten that's missing. Of course, you have to learn to change your whole way of cooking.I've now learned that there are cream cheeses and sour creams that I can buy commercially, that don't contain any of the dreaded gums or fillers. I look for the words NATURAL on the front. Kroger has a Sour Cream that is cheap and is Natural, with no fillers. I have to go to the Natural Foods section to find the Natural Cream Cheese with no Gums. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a sugar free version of Ice Cream that has no Guar Gum in it. There are safe Gluten Free Crackers, but I have to make all my own Breads & Desserts. So, I can't say how this product works for weight loss, but it's been working Great for my Baking Needs & I Recommend it. If you found this review helpful, please let me know and feel free to ask if you have questions or comments!

Do NOT add to smoothies!
I originally purchased this to add to my morning smoothies. First smoothie came out the consistency of yogurt and I just about barfed. After several trial and errors, the most effective way I found is to whisk with tea or water and drink immediately. This stuff thickens up quick, so down it fast. Then go about making your smoothie. There really isn't any taste. I mix mine with about 8oz of cold green and ginger tea (my preference) then follow with more water.I've only had it for a few days, so I will follow up in a month. It does make me feel full, so that's promising.

Inferior to other similar products
This powder clumps up immediately upon getting mixed in with liquid. You cannot get the clumps out even with a whisk. Tried to get a refund and was directed to company's web site for help. Not acceptable, they cannot tell me how to get the product from clumping up. So I guess there is no way for a refund on this one. Amazon used to carry Carlye Konjac Root, there was no problem with Carlye Brand.

It works but also leaves booger blobs in your drink
It really does work for a good fiber and it does make you feel Fuller. I wanted this to try to help with higher calorie meals where I would not eat as much of that. I need to find another way to use it because it was really unpleasant trying to drink. There is no flavor or anything I could detect, but I could not blend it very well. Some of the powder will mix in and thicken your water or whatever you put it in I've tried hot or cold but I still end up with boogery chunks that will not blend in. I never really wanted to make it into a smoothie but I'm sure if you put it in the blender it might work. All in all that does what it says it does but don't expect to just Stir It with a spoon. You will end up with some boogery chunks. I I used a little Ikea hand frother and it made the the chunk smaller but it's still gagged me. I think I'm going to try again with morning smoothies to keep me full longer in the mornings. I will update and let you know if this doesn't work!

Great product
I added this to unsweetened applesauce and it was great. Just be sure to know when your hungry vs knowing it is meal time- you will be incredibly uncomfortable if you eat after taking this (even after hours).

Very good value
I'd previously purchased Konjac powder from Bulk Powders via Amazon, however this worked out to be just a little cheaper, so I thought I'd give it a go.I add it to protein shakes, to thicken them up and make them more satisfying. Also, I'll put a small amount in my gym water bottle to make a very thin gel that stops me.from getting a dry throat when I'm exercising hard. It's very clever stuff and you'll be amazed how such a small amount of powder can thicken a large amount of liquid. Please note, it can take a few minutes for thickening to take place, so be careful not to keep adding more and more.Great stuff and being in a tub, rather than a zip lock bag makes it easier to dose and to store.

It works...
Really good product... BUT you need a whole lot less of it, than is said on the label... do start with a 1/4 teaspoon max in a smoothie on just about a liter, remember, it expand x 17 in your stomach and intestines... AND it is also the ONLY product that actually dampens appetite... and not only for that meal, but for the rest of the day, so cool.... I am over the moon about this, it works... just be careful... not use too much at on sitting/day...
