Kiss, Bow or Shake Hands
This book was absolutely interesting. Since I had been in the real estate business and we had many foreign buyers interested in real estate in this area, you need to know the proper etiquette when working with them to find a house or commercial building. This book has it all.A copy should be sent to the President since he doesn't seem to know how and when to book, or it should be sent to the WH protocol office.Something as simple as a "thumbs up" which means okay to us, means something else to many foreign people. Gestures, conversational tips, hand shaking, clothes that you are wearing. In one country they will put down what you are wearing -- in jest.Even if you are not working with foreign clients, it is an interesting book and you can learn so much about other peoples and their customs. It also teaches you what to expect as to how they treat and think about us. Some did not like dealing with a female real estate associate, so I would have to work through a male associate -- and of course share my profits!Fascinating read!

Perfect for Modern Business Traveler
Bought this book because it was recommended by a guest speaker in the class. I just read about the country I really know about and it seems like the author has really done his homework. The minute details are covered about culture and traits which you will not find in any talk show or 'polished' publications but so significantly important when doing business in foreign country. For example, don't say "Thank you" to Indians after they serve you a meal... It's a form of repayment, almost an insult and doesn't build relationship. Rather, invite your host for the same hospitality. That's how you build business relationships!! Also, Brazilians tend to be more analytical than their Latin American counterparts! Or you have to print your business cards in Portuguese and English when doing business in Brazil. They aren't too thrilled about being talked to in Spanish!! They don't consider themselves Hispanic! I found it cool to know...

great, handy reference
Give this to graduates in International Studies, International Law or folks just likely to be traveling extensively. In my forty plus years in international trade has been a godsend. With the number of State Department posts unfilled at the moment and the resulting scarcity of knowledgeable advice for private and commercial endeavors for some countries, this is great, handy reference. Wish they would add more smaller countries and update more frequently but still a superb resource. Fun too just to read about different countries cultural traditions and commercial practices.

Limit one per customer!
Having worked internationally for 20 years, the book will be a great help for my 4 young adult children all just launching their careers. Laid out in a similar fashion to the Fiske Guide for Colleges so easy for them to navigate quickly - but you're only allowed to order one per account from Amazon and instead have to order from "other sellers". Very annoying. I'm assuming the publisher is trying to keep companies from ordering in bulk but 1 per customer? Ridiculous

Start your business adventures here
You can read the country specific sections to get what you need and go.However, if you are fascinated by cultures, reading the whole thing end to end is absolutely worth it. Understanding how cultures operate similarly and differently is key in today's increasingly globalized market, and comparing cultures not only to American culture but to each other, within regions and between continents, is a real eye opener.Practical and persuasive, no matter where you are going to do business, Kiss, Bow, Or Shake Hands is a great place to start.

Brilliant
I'm travelling around Europe at present and wanted to get some background on the cultures of the people I would be working with - basic norms of behaviour both verbal and non-verbal.This book gives excellent, well written summaries of over 60 different races and has been an invaluable source of insight in my dealings (so far) with the French, Dutch, Germans, Americans and Belgians. I'm British. It's a tad bulky for "Carry on luggage" when flying but I think it's been worth it.If you work with other cultures I think it's a "must have" - and not only that it's an entertaining read!Buy It

Indispensable for the Business Traveller
I bought this for a young professional friend. I have my own copy. If you travel on business it is incredibly useful. Etiquette is complicated and subtly nuanced, and yet can decide the outcome of business success. It tells you what not to talk about, how to behave, what behaviour to expect, forms of address etc. It is amazing how this varies, even within a region. If you want to fit in and avoid faux pas, it is essential - and you can brief yourself in 5 minutes.

Useful but not sure totally correct
I work overseas a lot and I asked people if some of what was written was true for their country. Most agreed but some siad no so I dont know if it is really that accurate. Mixed feelings really but on the whole better than not having it.

I find this a very useful reference book
As an international executive coach I find this a very useful reference book to have in my collection. I use it to help me to gain an understanding of `local' thinking when exploring cross-cultural solutions as part of team development. Other more expensive books of this type tend to end up slightly too academic. I also give a copy to any client who is working internationally. Ian Claffey - Oxondon Consulting.
