Is this really thick? Do you think I could sew two pieces of this with a home seeing mahine?

It depends on what kind of sewing machine you have. I have a really good one and I can sew them together. But it's very nice quality canvas so you shouldn't have any problems

is this a one piece?, I want to make a backdrop, I don't want seams!

I ordered 4, all the same size and at the same time, for making outdoor draperies. 2 are more grey, have a seam down the center, and are double stitched on 2 sides. The other two are more more tawny, have no seam down the center and are single stitched on 2 sides. Lucky for me, I have 2 matching sets, so I am fine with all this. If I had gotten 3 of one and one of the other, it would have been problematic. It's obvious that these tarps, while all supplied by Chicago Canvas, are manufactured in different facilities from different canvas. If your plans are to use this as a tarp, it won't matter. But, if you're doing draperies or slip covers and need more than one, be aware they may not match.

How soft are these? I want to re-aphster my couch. I have purchased drop cloths thay are rough and others that are softer.

They are pretty comfortable for my indoor couches. I wanted something cheap that i can buy plenty of since i have parrots that don't like cages. These are cheap, easily can buy more and know it'll match. When washing them they can get very soft. Personally i do prefer the slightly rougher feel though. But if you want them soft definitely wash it. Washing them a couple times as a heavy load really does make them soft.. even if they feel slightly thinner
