GACE Middle Grades Science Teacher Certification Test Prep Study Guide (XAM GACE)

Waste of money!
I am very upset that I spent so much money on this book. For one thing, it is the worst edited book for professionals I have ever used. Examples: questions listed multiple times in the practice test, the answer numbers and question numbers don't match, quotes by famous people are wrong. In addition, the material covered could be found on a state standards website. When I sat for the test, most of the questions covered more current event material than history. This material wasn't covered in the study guide. The nicest thing I can say about this guide is that it will help organize your review of material that you may not have thought about in a while. I certainly would have felt better had I only paid $20 or so.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK... OR ANY OTHER XAMonline.com book.
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK... OR ANY OTHER XAMonline.com book. There is more wrong than right with this book. Apparently XAM can not be bothered to do any kinda of proof reading or editing. You would think 8 years would be more than enough time to at least catch some over their careless errors and produced a revised copy.I own this book and the Middle Grades Math book, and both of them are of the same deplorable quality. Both of them raise more questions than they answer, and i have filled both books with posted notes pointing out where they made careless mistakes. If you do buy this book, do not use it as your only source of study material. In fact you maybe better off getting the study guide of the GACE website and relying on Wikipedia, because in comparison to these books, Wikipedia is a much more reliable source.

I used websites like annenberg learner and physics 4 kids
Very cut and dry, I got a lot more out of using the Study Guide from the GACE website. It tells you exactly what's on the test. I used websites like annenberg learner and physics 4 kids. I need visuals and more detailed explanations to understand thing. This book lacked both. By the way my test didn't have an essay, I guess they got rid of that part. I passed and found the test to be easy but I did study all the major topics.

Ordered GACE at Amazon . . . with I hadn't
This book is nearly worthless as a study guide for the GACE. It is riddled with factual errors (Rosa Parks was an Atlantan; the Cree were a part of the southestern United States instead of Canada and Montana, apparently), internal contradictions (Hawaii is and is not a part of Oceana), poorly constructed questions (in some cases the target answer is synonymous with a distractor) and grammatical errors that occasionally render the text incomprehensible. It is also hopelessly repetitive. Do yourself a favor; spend the extra money and get a study guide from a better producer.

It leaves much to be desired, but can be helpful.
First off I want to say that when I ordered this book, I was sent the wrong book (for the wrong state AND wrong subject material) by A1books, and I still cannot forgive them for such an egregious mistake. So if you were like me, and waited until the last minute to order this book (well, I ordered it two weeks before I was scheduled for my test, it arrived 3 days before my exam and what I received was the wrong book), save yourself the trouble and just go to a brick-and-mortar bookstore and pick it up and save yourself the (potential) hassle.Personally, I am a math-minded person, bounded in logic and reason. The math involved in science for me is easy, but some of the concepts and terms for me are not. This book did help me with those terms and was good as a refresher for all the science I learned but had forgotten in middle school. I do not believe it will give the reader a mastery of science, but is a decent source to use for a cram session and as a resource guide. As to the book itself, I must say that I feel without it I would not have passed the MG Science test. However, there is NO HELP WITHIN THIS BOOK FOR THE ESSAY PORTION. I scored 4/4 on all 4 of the multiple choice sections, but only 3/4 and 1/4 on the two essays, respectively. I looked at the online practice tests as well and I do not believe those do enough for preparation. Unless you are truly good at science, I would study this book but also try and find supplemental material for answering the essays. Also, I was not very confident that I passed the test when I took it as some of the material in the book was not tested (that should be expected, anyway), and some of the questions on the test I do not remember reading about in the book.

Unbelievable
This is the most badly written/edited book I have ever read. There are multiple grammatical errors and typos on almost every page. Moreover, the practice test in the back has multiple typos, misspelled words, and repeats. #113 and #115 of the practice test are identical questions with contradictory answers. The author, editor, and publisher ought to be ashamed. I have never written a review before but felt obligated to in this extreme case. However, Social Studies Content by Penelope Fritzer is a very well written, concise, and helpful social studies resource.
