The first thing that stands out about the whistle would be it's price. Looking through Amazon you will see whistles costing $12.99, $15.99, and other ridiculous prices for 100 year old, outdated models. I bought this when it was $5.12, thinking it wasn't as loud as seen in the YouTube videos and other reviews I read. I was completely wrong, it is louder than what it seems like in other reviews. The whistle is very unique because with most whistles you can give it a light blow and hear a distinct whistle sound at a lower volume, of course. I first blew into it gently and heard nothing more than a light wind sound, so I thought it was broken. Upon blowing on it normally, the whistle exploded throughout the whole house and my ears rung and hurt because it was so loud. My father downstairs wanted to know what just happened because it is the loudest whistle he has ever heard too. Lifeguards and other people use it so I don't think I really need to go into how notorious it is as a professional whistle. It does it's job and it's sold cheap, unlike most items. If you have a job that requires a whistle, you will literally be the loudest person out there. It comes with a metal ring loop so if you have something to tie it around your neck you can do that.

Edit: It’s making me edit my original review from a few years ago. While the original whistle is still great, I ordered a yellow CMG as a backup since my son lost his. I was sent a yellow non-CMG. I requested a return and was sent another shipment. This time, I was sent a red non-CMG whistle which I am also returning. The whistle is still great, I just don’t see why it’s so hard to send me what I ordered. I have used the Classic Fox40 for the past 7 years. My son started reffing and I got this for him but it wasn't going to arrive in time for his first match so I bought him a Classic Fox40 at the store. I decided I'd keep this as a backup but once I gave it a try I now use it as my primary as the sound is much louder than the Classic I have been using.

Works OK, Loud but not ear piercing as many have said. Takes a lot of lung power which I do not have and so maybe that is the loudness issue. Well made whistle. Seems sturdy and should last many years. I gave it to my daughter for jogging. A simple but perfect gift

I have a bit of a different take on this whistle. First, yes, it is excptional for sports and coaches. However I believe it was Albert Einstein whom proffered that Mountain Climbing and Auto Racing are the only true sports - all else are childrens games. That said, My take is self defense. Without preface, bad guys completely depend on you having your guard down and being "invisble" to any possible people who could come to your aid. This whistle is everything it says to be. Practically indestructable, no moving parts, cannot corrode or rust, works dry, works wet. Takes marginal to little breath to blow it, and it is louder than the horn on most cars. Not only will it mess up the hearing of a bad guy, but instantly EVERYONE within hundreds of yards will look in your direction. Buy it, put it on a shoestring, and wear it as a necklace. Buy another one and keep it handy. Heck, at this price, buy three. When discretion counts, you dont want to make noise. When you want to be noticed, fast, you want something simple that makes the maximum amount of noise you can possibly make. This is it. All other whistles are inferior.

I work as a ski patroller in the winters, so I need a loud whistle to catch people's attention when I'm coming through with a toboggan and need them out of my way, or when I'm trying to stop someone who's skiing (or boarding) like a maniac down the hill! So far, I can't find anything to beat the fox. This thing is just ridiculously loud...so loud that I sometimes want to hold my ears before I blow it. Other patrollers or mountain safety have thought they found the loudest whistle (often times some strangely large, weirdly shaped contraption), but they quickly change their minds once they hear the Fox 40. It's particularly nice to use in cold weather since there are no moving parts to freeze and render the whistle useless. If it happens to get snow in it, just blow it out and you're good to go again. The rubber mouth grip is also a very nice touch in the cold. Put simply, this is probably the loudest and most effective whistle you're going to find. The sound is rather high pitched and shrill, so it's nearly impossible to ignore.

Let me start out by saying don't blow this whistle too close to others ears, you will cause damage! I work at a trampoline park and as a lifeguard and I've felt the whistles they gave us never really got anyone's attention, my friend then recommend the FOX 40 whistle. I won't lie I was a little skeptical about a whistle this cheap but I bought it with the mindset of if its not the best it's just a few dollars wasted. When I got the whistle I brought it to the lifeguard stand and told my partner to go at least 1 football field distance away and I blew this whistle. I almost ruptured my eardrums it was that powerful! For such a small whistle this sure packs a punch! I now recommend it to all incoming lifeguards during training and they all love it! It catches attention and I always have it on me even if I'm not at work. It's a great self defense whistle as well! I can't believe it's this cheap for such a fantastic product!

Great Whistle! I'm an elementary supply teacher and not a gym class goes by without this baby. Its Loud, crisp sound gets ahold of the kids attention and the rubber cover is a nice bonus for those of us that tend to chew on whistles. 10/10 would buy again!

Acheté pour remplacer mon ancien sifflet à bille (la bille, sans doute usée, se coince dans la fente d'évacuation d'air) et pour garder le sifflet en bouche pendant que je dirige un ensemble de musiciens. Mon choix de sifflet s'est d'abord orienté sur la possibilité de le garder en bouche, de manière confortable, grâce à l'embout "caoutchouc" et la bordure autour de l'orifice d'entrée d'air qui permet de bloquer le sifflet avec les incisives. Pas de bille ou cylindre à l'intérieur. Le volume, indiqué sur l'emballage, serait de 115 db. Je n'ai pas vérifié...en tous cas ça fait mal aux oreilles si l'on reste à proximité. Livré avec un cordon et un petit mousqueton. Fabriqué au Canada.
