Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico. The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches. The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality. One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you. See more

Durable, easy to read watch for a great price!
My brother bought me this watch as a graduation present. About a year later, I lost it while on vacation. I decided to try out another watch, but realized I liked this one much better, so I returned the other and bought this one again.Pros: This watch is very inexpensive for a quality watch. It is very lightweight to the point that I barely feel it on my wrist, and also quite durable. This makes it perfect for everyday use. It may not be the most luxurious looking watch but I think it has a nice modest yet bold look to it. It should be noted that the watch appears more jet black in person than this picture (which depicts the face as slightly brown). It is very easy to read and includes a slot to show the date, and will glow when you press in the crown, making it great for dark timekeeping as well.Cons: It can be a little tricky to change the date. The crown has to be halfway extended and it is easy to either push it in or pull it out all the way instead of stopping in between.Overall: This watch will only set you back a little over $20, but looks and feels like a much more expensive one. It will last you a long time, unless you lose yours like me.

well-designed watch at a fantastic price
I was looking for a classy/casual watch that was around the $100 range, so initially when I saw this guy my inner cynic kicked in and I figured it had to be a piece of crap. But I took the small risk to get it, and I'm so glad I did.I'm so sick of all these oversized watch faces that are popular right now... not just the diameter but the thickness of the cases. I don't want to wear a shiny hockey puck on my wrists. This one is a slim 8mm in thickness and 35mm diameter, which I was actually concerned might be too small, but I think it's just fine. The slim design doesn't just make it lighter (which some may see as a negative, if weight = quality to them), but it enables me to wear the watch more comfortably underneath sweaters & jackets if I don't feel like rolling up the sleeves. With one of those giant Citizens or Invicta watches you'd look like you had a massive wrist tumor underneath your shirt. The band is pretty great for such a cheap watch... it's certainly not full leather, but it's comfortable, looks more expensive than it is, and quickly adapts to your wrist shape. The only downside of this watch for me is that the ticking of the second hand is pretty loud compared to my other watches. But obviously 'loud' is a relative term. I just found myself noticing it more, when I didn't with the other watches until I had my hand up near my head.

Great loud watch
after reading reviews about how loud this watch was i purchased this watch anyway, and i am glad i did. this is how i knew it was loud. when i lost the watch, i tried to find it not by looking for it, but by putting my ear out and listening for it. after catching myself doing this i could not help but laugh and accept the fact that it is louder then any other watch i have had. i do not mind the ticking of seconds while i am at work because it gives me a realization that i want to make the most out of each second, but i do have to keep it in a different room when i sleep, because i do not want to be reminded about how much time is passing that i could be sleeping. indiglo night light is great, but i usually do not use it because i do not wear it at night because like i said, i keeps me awake. 18 m band, which is what i was looking for, looks great and classy. watch face looks like an inexpensive watch on a expensive band. i do not expect this band to age as gracefully as i would have hoped. i have not worn the watch in the shower, and do not advise you too if you want the band to last. after seeing someone else with the "alligator" and gold faced watch, i was super happy i choose this one, does not look as "cheap" in my opinion as the other versions do. B quality for an A+ price.

4 years later and it's still perfect
I've had this watch for probably over 4 years. It's so beat up and scratched, but it keeps perfect time and date. I still haven't had to replace the battery. Quality of leather is fantastic. After all these years and all the conditions it's been put through, the leather shows minimal wear. Love the simplicity and comfort of this watch. I'm a female and the size is just right. It's not dainty like most women's watches, or gigantic like most men's watches. This is like, an androgynous watch haha. If I ever end up breaking or losing it, I will 100% buy this watch again.

Beautiful watch.
Dressy, well made and even nicer than the picture. Hubby has a small wrist and it doesn't look like a hockey puck on his wrist. He is very pleased.

Satisfecho

Quite happy with this watch, eaay to see at a glance with everything quite readable even in full sunlight. Keeps good time also leather band is comnfortable. Has backlight but don't use it. Only minor grizzle is day display is very close to the numeral "3" however easy to get used to without issue.Terrific value for money!Thoroughly recommend so much so seriously thinking about getting another in a different style.
