Logitech G Astro A50 Wireless Headset + Base Station Gen 4 - Black/Gold

Let me first start out by saying I am a casual gamer. I've been playing Xbox One for the last few years and decided to get this head set for that particular gaming system. This is a great gaming headset! I upgraded from my Turtle Beach headset that served me very well for many years. Here is what I liked and did not like about the Astro A50. Pros: Great sound: Customizable pre-sets and default presets make this headset ideal for those that want to tweak their headset settings. You can easily adjust settings on this headset by using the free Astro app on any Windows PC or Apple OS computer. You can also select one of three headsets loaded on the headset by simply pushing the preset button. This cycles through three presets on the headset (1-3). Great feel: This headset is lightweight. You can easily wear this for 8+ hours during those long gaming sessions and still not get fatigued by wearing it. While the headset is lightweight it is still built very very well and feel solid. You won't feel like you can easily break this headset which for the price point is a good thing. The headset also does not pinch or make my head uncomfortable in anyway and if measured out I have a large head. Wireless: The headset is 100% wireless. The only time you will need to have the headset docked is for charging. There is no cables to get in the way between you and the gaming controller or the gaming console. The freedom is nice. With the wireless capabilities also comes outstanding range. When wearing the headset I can literally go to any area of my apartment and still hear voice and game sounds. It's also nice not being tethered to your controller or console. If you've never experience true wireless gaming this will be mind blowing for you--it was for me. Mic: While some reviews have posted complaints about the mic quality I have had really no issues with the mic. I am careful with it and raise and lower it with ease as to not damage the mechanism. The mic is turned on and off by raising and lowering. Up is in the off/mute position and down is in the on/voice position. No complaints from anyone in my gaming party on not being able to hear me either. You may need to carefully bend the end of the mic inward to your face a bit for best results. Keep in mind that if you do this the mic will hit the headset in the off/mute position so be careful not to damage it. While it would be nice to have a switch to tap to turn the mic on or off it is also nice to have the mic up out of the way for those solo gaming sessions or if you don't feel like being social during a particular gaming session. Cons: Adjusting in game and voice chat volume: While there is a "rocker switch" to adjust game and voice chat sound it is often confusing and I find myself constantly looking to see which way I should push the switch to adjust either the game volume or voice chat volume. This is especially true if I don't use the headset for several weeks between gaming sessions. Again, I am a casual gamer so this is my experience. Opinions on this will vary! Overall volume: It is nice to be able to easily raise or lower overall sound volume. This is game volume and voice chat volume. The downside to the particular way this headset's volume control works is that it's on a round dial. This dial is too easily manipulated especially if you are resting in a reclined position. I find myself inadvertently lowering the volume in the middle of a gaming session and then I need to remove one hand from the gaming controller to re-adjust the volume control. This is a drawback to the design but not a deal breaker. If you never game in a reclined position you very well may never experience an issue with this! Overall this is light years ahead of any basic headset and even more advanced in many ways over the competitors top end headset models. If you are a serious or casual gamer this is a headset that you should check-out and you'll probably realize that this is the route to go. Thanks for reading!

I was so very excited to try these, but WOW what a huge disappointment. First let me tell you the good things. The Dolby sound is great. That's it. And since the Dolby messes with game audio that isn't really great for a gaming headset. Now the rest of the story. The Astro app that you use to change/customize audio presets is absolutely horrible. It barely functions on console so you have to take the whole headset and base station to your computer in order to use it properly. Also the included cables are cheap poor quality and short- very short. Next up- occasionally the headset will unpair from the base station and you have to hard reset to get it working again. Additionally they would intermittently completely lose audio signal which can really ruin gaming. Then, after only a few gentle hours of use- the headband came apart and would not clip back together, rendering them unbearable. Again, this happened mid game with no warning. But by far the worst thing is the completely non existent support from Astro. I spent days trying to reach someone at the company both through their website and their Reddit forum with no response whatsoever. When I contacted Amazon, they offered me a 20% discount to keep the broken headset. No thank you I've returned them for a full refund. Regardless of what you've heard elsewhere, Astro A50 and Astro as a company are trash and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Beware the positive reviews you see online, I now strongly suspect that those people are all paid for those comments or they were before things went downhill at the company. When the nicest thing about a gaming headset of this high price is the box it comes in- stay away. I don't care what other brand you buy but save yourself the hassle and DONT buy these!

I've had an Astro a40 wired gaming headset for years so I was already familiar with the brand. $300 is a lot to spend on something so do your research and read the reviews both positive and negative. My personal experience is 100% positive. I wanted them solely for my PC since the a40's are in a different area of the room hooked up to the Xbox/Playstation/TV and having to unhook and reconnect every time I want to use the headphones is a hassle. Setting the a50's up to the PC took less than 30 seconds. Seriously. I simply connected the micro-usb to the base, connected the USB end to a free slot on my PC tower, turned the headphones on and viola! Windows 10 recognized the plug and play of a set of headphones and I was up and going in less than a minute. (Granted I made sure the toggle on the base was set to "PC" before I plugged everything in and turned it on) Sound quality is excellent. Just what I expected from a set of $300 astro gaming headphones. If you want to say anything on the mic, you just swing the arm down and it unmutes. Swing it back if you want to mute. Easy. Now, they are a wee bit tight when you first put them on but give it a good session of gaming and you'll be fine. You can adjust the volume by either using the dial on the right side of the headset or simply changing the volume via your PC controls. Battery life is advertised at being 15 hours of life before it needs a charge. I was able to use it for a few hours right out of the box. The charging base tells you how much battery life you have left via the 4 lighted squares on the base (see pic). I haven't used up all the juice yet and it has seemed to hold up nicely. The charging is super easy. The headset will sit on the base and if charging is initiated the squares will light up and indicate how much charge the battery has by how many lights are shown. Just charge them after you get done using them (like you would with your phone) and you'll be ready to go the next time you want to use them. Some additional features include: the cloth ear cups are removeable if you want to clean them or purchase the mod kit that has leather ear cups. Astro provides a free 2 year license of Dolby Atmos for headphones which is useful for all of those Call of Duty players. Range is VERY nice. With other wireless headsets you have a range at which you can walk away from the receiver before you lose the signal. I was able to walk three rooms away and go outside before I started to notice signal loss. That is about 50' (15m) through walls and around corners. *Just make sure you mute before you go to the bathroom* $300 is a lot to throw down for a nice pair of headphones. But these are worth the price.

I bought Razer Nari headphones and within a week they stopped working, then I researched headphones and went with the cheaper SteelSeries Arctis 9x and they couldn't stay connected to anything to save their life. Then I bit the bullet and bought a pair of these... These headphones do everything they are advertised to do and more. They are comfortable, they are well made and feel light weight on my head, the ear cups do not make your head sweaty, the sound quality is amazing, and the mic is clear with no lag. I know its a ton of money for gaming headphones but trust me if you are thinking about them at all they are a worthy purchase. You will not regret it. Pros: By far the best headset I have purchased. Comfort Sound Ease of use Mic Quality Cons: Time for the nit pickiness. You need to buy a mic cover if you plan to play or talk anywhere near a fan or AC unit. Which for a $300 headset shouldn't be an issue. The only cords that come with it are an optic cable and a USB to Mini USB plug that provides both power and audio (in PC mode) or just power (Xbox mode). I would have liked it to come with an Aux cable. The USB port on the back is labeled charge and when I plugged my phone into it hoping to get the headset to work with my phone all it did was slow charge my phone. This could have been an awesome place for a USB 3 connection or a USB C port with audio. I wish it had any kind of Bluetooth compatibility so I could just wirelessly connect my phone to it as well. Having to connect my phone through the Aux port is a bit strange in this era of wirelessness, I am still waiting on an aux cable to see if I will be able to use this headset for making a phone call as well or not (stay tuned for that update).

I have been using a Turtle Beach 800x headset for 4 years or so, and after I replaced it for a 3rd time I decided to go with a different brand. The issue with the Turtle Beach 800x headset is where the adjustable slider connects to the ear cup. It will crack over time especially if you cant 1 ear cup to the side when your ear starts to get hot like you see football coaches do. This is the reason I decided to go with the Astro A50 headset because they use some lightweight alloy and NOT plastic for adjusting the height of the headset. The sound quality is great but the Turtle Beach 800x has more sound features than the A50 does, however the build quality of the A50 -vs- 800x is a trade off I'm willing to live with. Especially at the cost of these headsets you want them to last unlike the 3 800x I have replaced. Pros: 1. Very comfortable and doesn't put pressure points on you ears like the Turtle Beaches do after long periods of wear 2. Flip to mute instead of thumbing around for the button 3. Quick setup. Took all of about 10 minutes especially since my Turtle Beach 800x had the same optical and USB plugs 4. The headset still has plastic, but it has a Solid adjustable height framing that is NOT made of Plastic like the Turtle Beach 800x is. 5. You can change the ear cups. Not your old A50 mod kits will not with this new A50 generation 6. Base Station is way better than the Turtle Beach 800x. You have more lights that lets you know the status of your headset. The Turtle Beach 800x just has a Red/Green Turtle Beach logo for a light to let you know when it was charged (Green) and connected. The A50 shows a bar letting you know how charged your headset is, and which features you are using Cons: 1. Does NOT have the same adjustable sound features at touch of a button that my Turtle Beach 800x had like "Footstep Focus", "Racing", "Shooter", "Signature Sound", "Superhuman Hearing", etc. I like the various different sound settings I could choose from 2. Does NOT have built-in Bluetooth so I can quickly connect to my iPhone or iPad 3. Does NOT have independent Voice and Game Volume control like the Turtle Beach 800x does. It does have Voice/Game Balancing which is good but I prefer independent volume controls. 4. Does NOT have noise cancelling like Bose or Turtle Beach 800x does The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the lack of sound features that the Turtle Beach has, and that it doesn't have independent voice/game volume controls

So, here's the story of my long journey to find the perfect gaming headset. Let me start by saying that the mic is not something I pay attention to at all since I have a good separate mic. So my review is purely based on sound, comfort and features. So the good about this headset, sound quality, BUT ONLY IF, you set the EQ the right way, the stock EQ options they have on the app are trash. I'm not an audiophile I'm not looking for the perfect equalization for every frequency all I want is a sound that is clear, doesn't get distorted, gets separated well and gives bass a little boost without losing quality on other frequencies so it sounds fun. With these I managed to get a good enough sound after I set the EQ the right way. Soundstage was OK, imaging was also OK, bass was OK, mids and highs were really good, they did not distort sound at high volumes. Now the bad, lets start with connectivity, for me, audio kept cutting out every 10 mins or so for like a split second, if you've had wireless headsets, it was like standing in front of the microwave while it is on, it was that weird popping sound that cuts audio out a bunch of times. This made these headset unusable for me. Second is comfort, these were OK, they give you a lot of adjustment for different head sizes, the pads are ok, but, they are not big enough for me, I have pretty big ears, so I hope these are comfortable for everyone else. I've had the Logitech G533, the HyperX Cloud Fligh, the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro, the new ones, and the Audio Technica M50x. The only ones that fit my head out of the box are the G533, those were extremely comfortable for me, but I broke them by mistake so I had to replace them, then I got the Hyperx Cloud Flight, worse headset ever with the most connectivity issues, then I went and bought these three, the A50s, the Nova Pros and the M50x. A50s, good sound, awful connectivity and OK comfort for me. Nova Pros, Bad/Ok sound, good connectivity and awful comfort for me. M50x, Best Sound even though the A50s got pretty close with some EQing, but at the same time the M50x are wired so you expect better audio quality, but you lose that wireless connection which I love so much, no connection problems on these because they are wired, I hate cables, but these come with a really nice and long cable so it's not that bad, and comfort, these were the worst comfortable headphones for me with the stock earpads, but I bought some better ones for 20$ here on amazon, and they became the most comfortable. if you compare the added price for the M50x and the pads you don't come close to the price for the A50s or Nova Pros, so it's fine, I guess.

The vast majority, if not all, of the negative reviews are likely from those that did not update the firmware before use. Take the time to download Astro Command Center and update your new shiny headset before plugging it into your Xbox. I also own the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Astro A50 Headset. Gen 4, the newest version I am reviewing here takes the best of the previous generations and adds additional improvements. From Gen 2 to Gen 3, I gained the wireless charging capability, but lost the 2.4GHZ wireless connection for 5GHZ. I always had frequent audio drops as other devices in my home competed. My guess is that Sonos and Orbi played a part in that. Distance from the base unit was also limited on Gen 3 compared to Gen 2. With this newest version, Gen 4, 2.4GHZ is back along with a smaller and easier to dock wireless charging solution. I immediately noticed superior sound quality compared to the Gen 3. I have not yet tested the Atmos feature over the standard Dolby configuration with a Atmos capable game. For Halo 5, I prefer the Dolby option and the Astro preset over Atmos. Pros - Great build quality and finish. - More neutral color compared to Gen 3 - Great sound quality and clarity. - Truly Wireless - Addition of Dolby Atmos - Xbox Has Astro Command Center as a Downloadable App (I've changed presets via the XB App. Not sure if the firmware can be updated via XB over a PC. Cons - If you enable Atmos, DO NOT ASSIGN THE HEADSET TO YOUR GAMERTAG. You will not be able to revert back to Dolby unless you unplug the headset from a power source. This is something Microsoft needs to address in the xbox UI. Wants - A mobile app. It would be beneficial to adjust presets on the fly. - Astro needs to come up with a solution to easily distribute user presets that can be found on other websites. - Noise isolated mod kit. It's possible what is listed on the Astro website is in fact that for the newest gen headset, but there is no description. It appears to be the same ear cushions already included.

Brought this headset a while back. It worked great for just short of a year, then I started having all kinds of problems. The headset would frequently disconnect from the base and reconnect a second later even with audio playing. Sometimes it would disconnect and would not reconnected until I pulled the power from the base and plugged it back in (turning the headset off and on was not enough). Eventually, the thing just stopped working altogether. I had an older Astro A50 Gen 3 that I was able to plug in and confirm it was not my PC that was the problem. Additionally, the Gen 3 had none of the disconnect issues the Gen 4 did. I was able to get a replacement fairly easily during my first experience with customer service. However, less than six months later the replacement headset started having the exact same issues the previous did. Then, eventually the second pair also completely stopped working. I contacted Customer Service who, this time, refused any kind of help whatsoever. Apparently, they do this shady thing where the warranty of the second device is actually tied to the first device. Seems to me Logitech and Astro can't provide anything beyond a lemon these days. Which is so disappointing because I used to be such a big proponent of the audio quality of Astro. I would avoid Astro, or at least this model at all costs. I would expect for such an expensive device that Logitech and Astro would be confident enough to stand behind the quality of their product, but they don't seem to with their shady warranty tricks in order to get out of their responsibilities wherever possible.

Update Mi-Avril: Après avoir contacté la compagnie j'ai été aidé pour réparer l'issue que j'avais. Tout simplement supprimer Astro Command Center et le télécharger à nouveau en mettant le fichier à jour manuellement ! C'est dommage de devoir le faire, mais le casque fonctionne tout de même très bien et je n'aurais probablement pas eu ce problème si j'utilisais ce casque que pour mes consoles. Update avril 2021. Le casque ne fonctionne plus pour aucune raison apparente. 1 an de durée de vie pour un casque de 400$ peu utilisé et en bon état c'est juste impardonnable. Après longue hésitation, j'ai décidé d'acheter ce casque malgré le prix. *Comparatif avec Astro A40 Tr+ et Sennheiser Pro Gamer Zero avec empli. Définitivement mon casque préféré niveau sonore et esthétique. J'hésitais à opter pour un casque sans fil, mais je ne regrette aucunement mon choix. La qualité sonore est parfaite. Le son est du même niveau que mon "kit" Sennheiser d'une valeur de 800$. La qualité du micro est impeccable. Le casque est confortable et bien construit. La connexion et les branchements étaient simples. J'ai eu la chance d'essayer le casque sur PC et sur Xbox One X avec Dolby Atmos (un essai de 2 ans gratuit vient avec le casque). À recommander pour ceux qui peuvent y mettre le prix !
