On the Horizon
Ahoy there me mateys! This book showed up towards the end of journey into the FODMAP diet. I had already been (finally) diagnosed and was at the tail end of figuring out the list of many foods that cause me grief. But I saw this title on NetGalley, thought "well more information is always good", and got a partial eArc from the publisher. I was mainly interested in the recipe recommendations and to see what other recommendations there were for combating bloat as all the doctors were disinclined or confused about how to actually treat the recurring systems that just wouldn't go away. None of the standard medication worked for me.So I ended up really liking this book as an additional resource. The particular sections that were invaluable dealt with supplements, fiber, and the research results of some of the recent studies. I do think this would be a great starting point into possibilities of bloating issues and wish I had this back in the beginning. There is even a quiz to that can help determine which conditions ye might have. So much suffering and useless medical tests could have been avoided. I do have to say that the recipes in this book were lackluster. Basically there are a couple of recipes for each type of diagnosis. So don't buy this for the recipes. But if ye experience unusual painful bloating and are at a loss as to how to get rid of it then this book might be handy. Arrr!

Essential Evidence-Based Resource for Patients and Dietitians Alike!
Freuman, a clinical dietitian and regular contributor to U.S. News, has been quietly chipping away at misinformation and remedying her clients’ digestive woes for years. Now, in her first book, she shares her wealth of clinical knowledge backed by extensive research and a side of bathroom humor. This book explores one of the most common (and vague) digestive complaints out there: bloating. Freuman arms both dietitians and sufferers with the vocabulary to pinpoint the condition that best matches a patient’s particular “brand” of bloating. She also takes the mystery out of gastroenterology offices by explaining the medical procedures used to diagnosis these conditions and the nutrition interventions that are best suited. Due to the widespread nature of GI disorders and potential harms from consulting with “Dr. Google”, this book is a must-read for any dietitian providing medical nutrition therapy.I'd like to add that, in my dietetics training, I sat in on sessions with Tamara and this book is as good as it gets without sitting across from her in the same room. Her sharp wit, intellect and compassion can be distinctly felt through her writing.

INVALUABLE, LIFECHANGING INFO!!!!
This book isn't about selling products or supplements. It's actually about helping the public feel better and end life-long searches for solutions to their symptoms.I never write reviews, but felt strongly about this one because it truly changed my life and I want to recommend it to the world !! I get most of my books from the library but I purchased a copy after getting a rec. from a friend, and am so glad I did. Over 6 months later I keep referencing the smart and straight-forward writing, and have been physically helped by the answers in this book. t's a STEAL OF DEAL, and hard to believe that all this info is even available in a book when people pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars to hear (if they're lucky) 1 or 2 pearls of wisdom conveyed in the chapters.I've suffered from digestive issues from most of my life, which ultimately propelled me to go back to school for nutrition to help others with their digestive issues as well. I have to say that despite my lengthy grad school training and being treated by some top GI doctors in NYC, I learned so many new pieces of knowledge based on the author's research and years and years of experience. Her guidance not only helped me personally, but it's an incredible guide and handbook for me to use professionally. I love that it's easy to understand for any level, and that her witty, straightforward writing was so fun to read. Most people in my life have *some* kind of digestion-related issue either constantly or once in a while, and I've recommended this book every time I hear about it impacting them. I believe that if every GI doctor and dietician out there owned a copy of this book, we'd be in a much better place by now!!ALSO, the recipes in the back are DELISH!! The salmon cakes and Moroccan tagine have become staples in my life!

If you’re suffering order this book
This book helped me find out what was wrong with me. I’ve been plagued with SIBO, methane dominant since November of 2013. I’ve had 3 CT’s, 2 colonoscopies, 2 EGDs, a gastric emptying study, a SITZ marker study, a HIDA scan seen 2 specialists and even had my gallbladder removed (for no reason) in search of what was wrong with me. Everyone kept saying all the tests were normal. Well guess what? It’s not normal. I implemented her low FODMAP diet (you can get a fantastic app for it on your phone) & I’ve been treated with Neomycin and Xifaxin and I’m finally feeling some semblance of normal again. It’s difficult to put into words what it’s like to get your life back again. If you’re suffering order this book today and take the quiz. It will show you what the doctors are missing.

Great help for anyone with IBS
Great help from a knowledgeable and experienced professional in determining source of abdominal issues, how to help myself with diet, how to talk to dr. how the digestive system actually works and why it sometimes doesnt. A 'test' to help figure out areas of problems, and much more. More help than I got for 7 yrs from my Dr in 1 day of reading for less than a co-pay.

Told me what no doctor or dietitian has ever told me
I've read books about IBS, about the gut, about the microbiome, about gut health. These have been written by gastroenterologists, naturopaths and alternative 'wellness' writers. They all seemed to just point to one specific agenda and I thought I'd have to do a big overhaul of diet and eat only natural foods or or maintain restricted eating to overcome this. This book however was very different. It talks about symptoms you may not have ever heard anyone talk about. Did you know you can be constipated but still get diarrhoea at the same time? If you go to the toilet you can still have a backlog which causes bloating and nausea further up the chain? or that what you ate 6 hours ago could be contributing to your bloating symptoms now? Or that different gas or types of flatulence can mean different things? It was such a welcome relief to hear about different conditions, their symptoms and options to deal with them. In this book she will name a condition and then tell you what bloading from that condition feels like and what you can do about it. Bloating really is different depending on the cause and condition. Through reading this, I realised I dont think I purely have IBS, but 2 other conditions contributing to my symptoms. Even my gastroenterologist agreed with me! She also covers different supplememts/medications and this gives a thorough overview that I have never seen before. Well worth the read to understand if you have gut symptoms

Love this Book!
Very concisely written in such a way that you don't have to be a medical professional to understand. Has provided a lot of insight and answers to things not previously considered. Has been much more helpful than the countless doctors, Naturopaths and other specialists I have seen in the past.
