Yes, I switched mine to StraightTalk and it works great.

can this phone be used as a hot spot?

Only if you use AT&T as a carrier network. Even the unlocked ones have the hotspot and tethering features disabled in firmware by AT&T. They will not be enabled even if AT&T gives you an Unlock code.

Will it work on Mint Mobile?

Not sure about MM , I have mine on straight talk and it is an unlocked version..

It's not an app on the phone however, you can access maps via the browser. Just be aware that its not a pleasant Google map experience. Very frustrating for me, being so used to smartphones.
