Super Book!
GREAT book! Unlike so many books on SEO, this one is NOT full of author self-promotion or marketing hype. The author gives you both a broad -- and deep -- overview of the topic [No, you don't have to be an HTML expert (Which is hardly difficult to understand, anyway)]. The author has over 30 years' experience in IT/e-commerce. Clear, well-organized, and very reader-friendly! Want proof? It's now in its SEVENTH edition. A++++++++++++++++++++

A Great GoTo Book
This was a replacement book for one stolen unfortunately. But the book is a great refresher for those who need a huge overall summary of Google ranking and web design tips. It is not a step by step instruction book. You have to already have knowledge of html or web design skills. For me it was great to refer back to for reminders and general whatnot for my freelance work.

Tough Read
This is not a book you can't put down, 462 pages. Nor is it a "Cliffs Notes" approach. I believe it has value, but you gotta really want this info, it is a tough read.

This book does not have current information and needs an update.
This is well-written and easy to read and understand, but the information is out of date by 3 to 5 years. SEO is an area that is changing rapidly, particularly with AI and the expansion of programmatic advertising, so it is important to understand the current trends. I'd advise considering a more current source of information or waiting for the author to do an update.

Very, Very, Very Dated
I was a huge fan of the first edition of this book, and I recommended it for years. The 7th edition is just a sad memory of what was once a greta book. It is filled with ideas, tools, and techniques that are no longer relevant. Sometimes there is a brief note explaining that the information is out of date, but often there is not.Peter Kent needs to throw away the book and start from scratch, or simply retire and let more current authors provide useful and actionable information for today's world.
