It has a malt vinegar base blended with fruit and spices, and is usually eaten as an adjunct to hot or cold savory food, or used as an ingredient in soups or stews. It is the most well-known brand of brown sauce in the United Kingdom and Canada.

A great source for your sauce
The price does tend to vary a lot on amazon, so keep an eye on it and purchase when it's low. I typically get it when it's around forty bucks even. Please note that the last few orders have been 2x2Liter bottles instead of 1x4L. The minor downside to this is that you end up with more unusable sauce that's stuck in the bottom and doesn't come out, but the upside is that one of them stays fresher longer. As for the sauce itself, well, it's a rich and tangy steak sauce that goes well with pretty much everything. I've been eating it since the early 70s in the UK and I'm happy that I can get it here in the USA. It's fantastic on chips (fries), adds an amazing tanginess to cheese, and is great in most sandwiches. If you're feeling daring, spread some peanut butter on a slice of toast then lightly spread some HP sauce on top - sublime!

Best value for money, but needs a pump
HP is like Marmite; you either LOVE it, or you HATE it (I hate Marmite).I'm a huge HP fan, but if you stock up on the glass bottles, you'll end up paying a fortune, plus you can never get the last drops out of the damn bottle. So, this huge jug of HP sauce is the best thing ever. The only thing I hate about it, is getting the sauce out of it, it also looks pretty weird sitting on the table next to the poor ketchup bottle. The bottle REALLY needs a pump, but I haven't been able to find one that fits the it yet.FWIW: this HP sauce is now made by Heinz in the Netherlands, when Heinz purchased HP from Dannon, they shut down the UK factory and moved it abroad. Thankfully this hasn't impacted the flavor one bit.If you like HP sauce, you have absolutely no excuse for not buying this.

Just as good as I remembered!
If you love HP sauce (you probably wouldn't be looking at buying it in bulk unless you do) this is definitely the way to go. It tastes as good as it ever did and seems to keep without deteriorating at all (in a cool place but not necessarily refrigerated). My family loves it on many savory items (anything from breakfast eggs to burgers and steak) and we add it to bean dishes and homemade barbeque sauce too.Unreservedly 5 stars!Just wish we could buy Lea and Perrins Worchestershire sauce and Marmite in bulk too...

Best Brown Sauce by Far
Steak Sauce has nothing on HP - The King of Sauces. Been using it in England for over 40 years and now in the US for over 20. This is a great sauce, hard to explain, but everyone who tries it loves it. It doesn't have the strong vinegary taste of the US steak sauce, it's more subtle and goes with almost every dish - great with scrambled eggs, hhmmmmm yum.
