The Best Spider-Man game I've played Yet!
Finally, Beenox has delivered an awesome and durably realistic Spider-Man game with such realistic authenticity than previous games! Despite this being the first Spider-Man movie-based game the developer has ever done, since Treyarch handled the games based on the Tobey Maguire/Sam Raimi films of the series, this Spider-Man game, when I first played it, looked so surreal. The Free-roaming feature looked like as if I was in Spidey's world with purified realistic graphics. Good thing Beenox added the free-roam/open world compatability that was dearly missed in "Shattered Dimensions" and "Edge of Time" (with EOT being their shortest Spidey game). One new feature to these Spider-Man games is the "Web Rush" feature. That is/was so badass. Unlike previous Spider-Man movie games, The Amazing Spider-Man does not feature the voices of the actors featured from the film (Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans). Instead, consists of an entirely different voice cast but with likenesses of Gwen and Dr. Connors from the film of the actors that played them (sans Garfield's Peter Parker) is still used. When you look at Gwen Stacy, she doesn't really resemble Emma Stone at times. She rather looks like someone else. As always like previous Spider-Man movie games, it has the same game formula - 1.) Taking on elements from the Comics. 2.) Featuring villains that never appeared in the movie, but rather in the game (Rhino will though appear in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 alongside Electro). 3.) Using a few elements from the movie's plot. In regards with the villains, this marks the third Spider-Man movie game to feature Rhino, Black Cat and the Lizard. Last 2 times Rhino was in any of the movie-based games was in the Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 games ("Friend or Foe" doesn't really count). Last time Black Cat/Felicia Hardy was in any of the movie-based games was in the Spider-Man 2 game. And lastly, the Lizard/Dr. Connors in the Spider-Man 3 game - but it hasn't been that long since Dr. Connors has been the Lizard in any of these movie games. SM3, when back in 2012, was 5 years ago at that time, so by the time of the arrival of "The Amazing" reboot movie in '12, it was 5 years later but the very first time to feature the Lizard in any of these Spider-Man movies. PROS: * Nice set of costumes to unlock, with a Stan Lee skin to be unlocked when you had pre-ordered the game back in 2012, which I didn't because I just got my PS3 in late 2012 for Christmas. * The return of the open-world enviroment that was missed in Beenox's last two Spider-Man game titles. * The Brand new Web rush feature. * Neat unlockables, like collecting comic pages scattered around the city and audio files of Dr. Connors' work at Oscorp. * A tie-in video game sequel to the movie, but is officially non-canon to it. * Awesome game score composed by the same composer behind the Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time games as well as being known for doing the music for the Batman: Arkham series of games. * Has a "Batman: Arkham City"-vibe to the game (but one thing, Spider-Man is NOT Batman). * Bruce Campbell as the voice of the Xtreme Reporter! * Taking photos (like in the Spider-Man 3 game). CONS: * Spider-Man's voice acting is okay here but it would've been great if Andrew Garfield did the voice in the game, like what Tobey Maguire did when he lend his voice in the games based on his Spider-Man films. * No health meter. Health auras in today's video games for me can be repetitive.

The Best Spider-Man Game Yet!
First of all, I'll admit that this is Teresa's son writing this :D. Anyway, I went to see the film last year and was very pleased with what I saw. I really don't understand why a bunch of people didn't and don't like it. The original films were great, but it was time for a reboot. I finally was able to purchase the game a few weeks ago and it is excellent. WARNING: Minor spoilers folllow! The game picks up a little while after the events of the film. Oscorp has created a handful of cross-species creatures (fans will recognize redesigned versions of the Rhino, Scorpion, Vermin, and Iguana to name a few, as well as some other familiar faces...and voices). They break out of the building and start infecting civilians all across the city, turning them into dangerous cross-species as well. So it's up to our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to save Manhattan again! Along the way he must battle numerous mechs designed to stop the mechs. But why would he fight them as well? Because he's considered a cross-species as well (the perfect cross-species to be exact). The story is very interesting all the way to the end and tests Spidey to his limits. Various side missions can be accessed during or after the main story line and a handful of awesome costumes can be unlocked in various ways (some can only be found after taking photos of spider emblems throughout the city). Even after completing all quests, there is still work to be done...like collecting 700 comic pages throughout the city. The gameplay is sleek and smooth and the graphics are great (especially Spider-Man and a few select villains); one great aspect is the new Web Rush ability...trust me, you'll get addicted. The voices and sounds of the game are really good as well (even though the cast of the movie does not provide the voices...). My one complaint is that you get a little tired of playing after 100% completion, but it's easily fixed by playing it all over again on a different difficulty. I highly recommend this game for Spider-Man fans and gamers who enjoy a good action/adventure game. I can't wait to see if they'll make a sequel after the next movie! Gameplay: 5/5 Graphics: 4.5/5 Sound: 4.5/5 Overall: 4.5/5 Fantastic!

$23.99 - Good Deal!
For $24.00 new this game delivers! I bought this game SOLELY to web swing around town. This game delivers! What I didn't expect is a good story to go along with it. Metal Gear Solid will always have a great story, and Far Cry 3 really suprised with its voice acting. This game doesn't inspire in either of these fields, but doesn't fail too miserably at them either. It is incredibly fun though, more fun then the Incredible Hulks Ultimate Destruction, which has HORRIBLE GRAPHICS AND STORY. I haven't really been interested in purchasing another Super Hero game since that PS2 rendition of the Incredible Hulk, but this game tickled my fancy with a quill feather, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Now, $24.00 is a lot for me to spend on a video game, I mostly purchase used games under $5.00. But like I said, my fancy was tickled pink ,and I am extremely happy that I followed my intuition and bought this game. It is possibly more fun then 5 $5.00 games, but thats debatable. I haven't played many missions yet, but I have played countless hours in free roam mode in Manhatten, and I have found close to 175 Collectible Comic Books. They are pretty easy to spot on Easy mode, idk if that changes with harder difficulties, but they are super fun to find! Spiderman has amazing controls, and I feel lots of times like Just Cause 2 without a parachute, but then all of a sudden I start sprinting up the side of a building Hulk style, and realize there isn't like it. I will free fall mid swing on purpose, and just let spider hit, and he will always prevent catastrohphe. I will also get as close to the ground without touching it and hit R2 to swing, and he will maneuver around obstacles if they are in his way, lift his legs above cars if he has do and almost always tricks out with a flip. Really a great game, reccomend if you really want to have some fun without doing anything hard.

It Does Spidey Justice
I was a bit apprehensive about this game when it was first announced, but the more that was revealed the more intrigued I became. After finally playing this game for myself I must say that it did not disappoint. The graphic detail and gameplay are both great. The combat is vastly improved and takes a page from Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum, but what Spidey's style and flair. The Stan Lee Adventure Pack is quite a treat as Stan Lee does all of his own voice overs. The entire plot is you have to search for his missing script that is mysteriously blown out of the window. Silly plot, but it makes for a some interesting fun and games. I still have yet to play it and see what you get for finding all the pages to his script. So far there are a few unlockables to look forward such as different costumes and such. So far I really look forward to seeing what other spoils there are while playing the game. As much as I enjoyed watching the film I'm getting the same vibe from playing the game Over all this is a very solid game. Many have poked and prodded about the web slinging mechanics not sticking to the buildings, but it works. The webs may not literally stick, but one thing I have noticed is that you do have to be near buildings in order to actually swing anyhow. The game does have its setbacks with glitches here and there especially when wall crawling in odd corners. Other than this the game is really fun. I do have to add that if you DO NOT want to spoil the events the movie, play the game after you see it. It is plot heavy and refers to the movie quite a bit. The Amazing Spider-Man is amazing in it's own right. Update - 7/10/12 The game continues to be just as fun as I hoped. Being able to search for the comic books rather than emblems is a step up. Adding icing on the cake, the comics you collect are full issues of different Spider-Man comics. It has various comics that you can collect and read ranging from the original Amazing Fantasy Spider-Man comic up to more recent comics. I played the car chase missions and photography missions which are pretty cool. It keeps you on your toes in between story missions. I also have found another con in this game which isn't really a big deal, but kind of disappointing. The free roam area isn't as large as the previous games. The game itself is limited only to Manhattan where in others you could go to other metropolitan areas and there's no access to subway tunnels and sewers either. That was the one thing about Spider-Man 3 that was an awesome addition. This game should've had underground access, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

In a word... Amazing
I abstained from making this purchase for a long time, due to my hesitation with movie tie-ins (9 times out of 10, they are horrid), but I'm glad I eventually went ahead and bought it. In short, Beenox deserves a medal for their work with Spider-man. This game, and Shattered Dimensions (pretty much different genres of games) are now my 2 favorite Spider-man games of all time. The game is fun, addictive, and unfathomly beautiful. It's almost as if when you are moving Spider-man, you can do no wrong, because the game has hundreds of animations ready for any action you might take... in the end, he always moves in a way that is both agile and graceful. I can only imagine how much time it took to integrate all his movements. As far as the combat goes, think Arkham Asylum/City, but a bit more fast paced, and with less available moves. It is not the same kind of action and combat move using game that Shattered Dimensions is (again, different genres), but it is definitely fun. Also, the trophies are fun to platinum, and not super tedious; coming in just shy of 20 hours, I think that is pretty good for an action game but obviously there's always room for more! As far as cons go, there were just a couple little graphical glitches where a speeding car would simply drive right through another car... but I guess superhero games already defy the laws of physics :P Perhaps the common thug in NYC is equipped with particle destabilizers? Also, as I said before, the combat is not quite as fleshed out as Batman, and sometimes your dodge simply won't work... but had Batman never been created, the combat in this game would look unreal, so I still think it warrants 5 stars. Buy this game already!

Worth it for nostalgia sake
Absolutely huge nostalgia trip. I remember playing this all the time back in 2012 when the movie came out now I know this game doesn’t get as much as it used to obviously for it being how it is but overall it played well and it came here relatively fast surprisingly Good game overall

Good game but extremely disappointed.
I've steered clear of the last couple of Spider-man games that were developed by Beenox due to the fact they were not open-world games. So when I heard they were developing Amazing Spider-man with an open world, I decided to purchase it in hopes that it would become the new high water mark in the Spider-man series. And in some ways it is. The combat is vastly improved due to the fact that they borrowed the mechanics of the Batman Arkham games. It's not quite as polished as the Arkham games but is far better than the past Spider-man games. The Graphics are quite nice. And of the short amount I played of the story, it seemed fairly well done. However, while the game has made many improvements in areas that needed work, they neglected the most important aspect that makes Spider-man games fun: Web swinging! In the past open-world games, it was a blast just to swing around the city between missions, doing random tasks from time to time. Yet the mechanics were simplified in Amazing Spider-man to the point where this is no longer true. The basic web swinging in this game is this: You hold R2, Spider-man swings along his web, releases the line at the end of the swing and shoots another line to swing on. It repeats for as long as you hold the R2 button. This automation completely takes away any feel of control for the user. I've read some complaints about "cloud swinging" as people call it: swinging where there is no building to attach to. And while this is a valid complaint, it doesn't bother me much. I could easily accept it if the swinging was at all enjoyable. And yes, there is a new feature called Web Rush, in which you can quickly move from point to point, slowing time if need be. But it's nothing more than a simplified web zip and does not make up for the lack of enjoyable web swinging. Is a 1-star review harsh? Maybe. But the game is a huge disappointment due to the laziness of the developers, slapping together a simplified, automated swinging mechanic.
