I'm terrified of spiders and clowns. Would this work on both or would I need a seperate item for the clowns?

Separate item. Get a giant can of RAID for the spiders, and a MAC-10 for the clowns. Both work great in close quarters...

On the ground next to a hog tripped by dogs DQ'd my knife. My Ridgebacks are gun shy. To shoot safe I have to get close ne way. Are the screws strong?

The screws that some with the spear are 2x 1/4" diameter, 1/2" long. Personally, I took one look at the the factory screws and said, "forget this, I need 1" screws at least." The shaft is about 1 1/2" diameter, so I had no problem with splitting or cracking driving my 1" screws in with a drill.

Does the spear head come attached to the shaft or is assembly required?

Assembly is required. And like others have stated, the shaft won't fit all the way down onto the spear head without filing down the tip of the shaft some. At least mine was that way.

Is this dangerous for a 14 year old?

This is a real spear very sharp! Does your 14 year old own and have access to a firearm ? If he can Handel a firearm safely I would trust him with it.It is not a toy and should be treated with respect.I own two of them they are my last ditch effort to protect my family,They are well built extremely sharp right out of the box.I consider them a weapon.I had my first gun at 14 and used it for hunting so it depends on your location and supervision !Good luck!
