Good For Vertical Flooding Conditions
I've tried several of the alternatives to Nikwax products and every single time I keep coming back. Although I have probably a half dozen stories to tell about my experience, I only need to relay one fairly recent story to tell you why I trust this (and the other Nixwax products) for most of my waterproof gear.In 2014, we set out for a month long road trip to Alaska in the middle of summer, planning to tent it all the way up and back. Unbeknownst to us, we made the trek in the wettest summer that pretty much everyone alive could possibly remember, it was wet! For 30 days straight, it rained 27 of them. This wasn't your average drip-a-bit then blow over type of rain. No. It was torrential downfall followed by a downpour followed by a steady drench thereafter. It was an unreal bout of rain, like we were living in a rain cloud for a month. All my gear, including my tent, footprint, rain fly and gear's duffel bags were treated with this stuff or other Nikwax products. It's never a cheap preparation, but in hindsight, it's always worth every penny. Night after night, my aging camping gear and waterproof clothing were pounded from all sides with unrelenting rain, put away wet only to be brought out into more wet. What little breaks in the weather we could get usually dried things out just enough to get wet again a few hours later. We could barely get a break, except for maybe once every 8-10 days or maybe a lucky clearing during setup or teardown of camp. The point? We stayed mostly dry. Our clothes, our sleeping gear, our camp gear. Dry, all of it. Every night. Every storm. It kept one pretty lady awfully happy, and that's no easy feat faced with constant rain! To be certain, some of it was probably technique as I cut my teeth camping in Oregon where you learn how to deal with rain well before you can afford technical preparations. But from one rain master to another, the secret to maintaining technical gear for whatever gets thrown at you is Nikwax. Bottom line, it's proven itself to be my trusted waterproofing material and probably always will be.Is it perfect? No, it's not going to make Goretex out of nylon no matter how you slice it...but it'll be better than pure nylon, for sure. Does it help? Without a doubt. When your gear is starting to see it's age, will it revive it enough to keep it going? Yes, and my 20+ year old used and abused Cascade Designs tent that I'd take anywhere, anytime proves it. Do you need to augment your preparations for rain otherwise? That's probably a good idea, at a minimum a solid seam seal on all rainfly seams and liberal use of tarps, when needed.I've used this stuff for years and that's only the latest reason I keep coming back for more.

It works well on high quality raingear.
Works really well after the initial application and about 4 months of use... then you have to wash & re-apply. It has a weird smell that I don't care for, kinda like a pervasive cleaner smell. If your jacket isn't already a high quality waterproof jacket, this will not be a miracle in a bottle - it'll only revitalize what you have.

It works
It works but beware; if you wash and dry your clothes after you apply it, it will wash away and will no longer work. Wipe your clothes with a damp cloth, don’t wash them. You may have to apply a second bottle after some time. So far it’s working.

Amazing Stuff
This past winter I made the mistake of washing my wife's Oakley ski pants with regular detergent. After that, they absorbed water like nobody's business. Luckily, that was the last time she needed them. I bought some Tech Wash and Nikwax so we could try to recover her ski pants and also clean our other winter gear this spring. I finally did just that and after drying them in the dryer, tested every garment to ensure waterproofing by placing each one in the shower spraying cold water for 60 seconds. Not only did the Nikwax prove itself during my tests, but the articles of clothing felt lighter than they did before I washed them. It doesn't stop there. My winter jacket has a removable liner that turns the shell into a pretty nice lightweight jacket for cooler weather. Well, as it is with a lot of the US this year, we've had quite a few heavy rainstorms over the past few weeks (it seems we're always in a flash flood warning) and I took my jacket out a few times. I'm thoroughly impressed. Not only did the water bead and roll right off my jacket, but my torso stayed completely dry and warm despite heavy rain pounding on the seemingly lightweight fabric for several minutes. And the water droplets that beaded on my jacket were easily shaken off so my jacket could be put back in the closet without getting everything else wet.I applied the Nikwax indoors without any problem. Nikwax has kind of a mild vinegar odor (my best description), which on it's own isn't bad, but the Nikwax will get on everything and can be a pain to get off floors and walls. I will say, however, that a well-ventilated area is a necessity because of the small, but possible risk of inhaling nano particles. This is from the manufacturer's website:"Nikwax water-based consumer products are white opaque liquids with an average particle size usually between 1 and 2 microns. That is ten times bigger than the largest nanoparticle. However, a small proportion of the emulsion will be in the nano range. As soon as Nikwax is diluted with water, or the water evaporates from it, the emulsion particles aggregate, that is, join together and get bigger.. Therefore there is an extremely low risk with Nikwax products that novel nano particles will be dispersed into water or air through their use."Nikwax water-based spray products are delivered from a trigger spray and are not gas driven. Therefore the particle size that is dispersed into the air is relatively very large compared to a gas propellant driven aerosol, and is not nanoparticle size. Nikwax trigger driven sprays therefore present low risk in terms of inhalation and the possibility of materials entering through the airways and into the lungs. Care should, however always we taken to avoid inhalation of any spray material, including Nikwax."I'm excited about next winter, trying out all of our refreshed gear on the ski slopes, playing with the dog in the snow, shoveling, etc. I have a feeling next winter is going to be awesome thanks largely to refreshing our snow gear to beat the elements with Tech Wash and Nikwax. Amazing stuff.

Patchy results
I bought this because of good reviews and was looking forward to a decent result. I followed the instructions to a T and walked in the rain today and despite coating this twice over three days or wetting and spraying cycles it still has plenty of spots where it’s wet and leaks badly. Won’t buy again

Very easy to use and it works!
The waterproofing solution is easy to use and it works. I have used it for 2 adult rain jackets and I still have some left that would be enough to treat another jacket.
