Detailed 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 (NATO reporting name "Foxbat"), a high-supersonic interceptor and reconnaissance/bomber aircraft developed by the former Soviet Union. Very little was known by NATO allies about the true capability of the top-secret MiG-25 fighter until 1976, and before that time, the MiG-25 was generally thought of by NATO as a highly advanced and ultra-maneuverable air superiority fighter. The perceived threat brought about by the knowledge of the existence of an ultra-advanced Soviet air-superiority fighter motivated American military planners to push the technological limits in fighter aircraft design of the day, which led to the development of the F-15 Eagle, one of the greatest air superiority fighters of all time. When Viktor Belenko, a Soviet MiG-25 pilot, defected to the United States via Japan in 1976, the truth about the MiG-25 was finally revealed. NATO learned that the MiG-25 design was less sophisticated then they have originally thought. Fitted with two massive turbojet engines, a powerful radar and advanced targeting system, the MiG-25's intended role was to chase-down approaching American supersonic nuclear capable bombers, which were then in development, and blow them out of the sky before they can reach their targets. As a dogfighter, the MiG-25 was limited, as NATO learned following the Belenko defection. Some 1,190 MiG-25s were produced and a limited number are still in active service. This Hasegawa 1/72 scale assembly kit includes one pilot figure. L: 307mm, W: 198mm. 57 pieces total.
