All Peale's books are different and very good
Good medicine. A page or two is extremely uplifting. Language was used more accurately back then too.

Interesting
In many ways, this 1961 book is so old it's new.His essential point is that there will be trouble in this world (as Jesus said) but the person who is able to realize that something can be done and work hard to make things better will fare better than defeatists. His advice centered around changing your thoughts out of defeatist patterns, visualizing, etc. - the same kind of things you see in more current self-help books. What interested me most, and may also interest you, is his indictment of the churches at the time, who were so absorbed in social action that they seemed to have forgotten that their central purpose is to witness to Jesus, not be what was essentially, for some churches, a tax-exempt political activist group. He cites several people who were turned off on churches for that reason; little or nothing proclaimed about what Christians believe, what God means to an individual, how to live a better life, etc. That's a perennial problem that Christian and other religious groups have to deal with. We can't ignore hurting people, corrupt politics, and so on, and individuals of faith can pursue their activism as their conscience guides them,; but when a religious group gets to the point of promoting varying stances as a group, it forgets what its primary purpose is pretty quickly. So overall it was pretty interesting to see what the concerns where in 1961 - about what they are today. I gave it 4 stars because Peale is really a somewhat awkward writer, but you'll get the sense of it is self-help or church selection interest you.

Powerful stuff!
This book was recommended by the late great Reverend Ike in one of his sermons, so I bought it. Powerful pick-me-up. Gives the reader tremendous inner strength without being overbearing. Highly recommended.

Peale does it again
I've read a hand full of Mr. Peale's books and they have all made me feel great! I usually read in the morning and if I miss a morning I usually recognize a difference in myself. I highly recommend all of his books.

Many Takeaways
It is now one of the center pieces of my library. Norman Vincent Peale was a pastor for over 30 years so it is book based on Christianity and faith. A new perspective on life's challenges is how you change the way you think. I found great value in this book.

The Tough-Minded Optimist
I have been reading books and articles written by Dr.Norman Vincent Peale for over twenty years. I have not found one of his books or articles that hasn't inspired me to be a better person or helped me through very difficult situations I have gone through. The Tough-Minded Optimist is no exception.
