Great tires for pavement and urban commuting
I ride my MTB almost exclusively on city streets and these tires are exactly what I was looking for. Very fast and smooth rollers, very noticeably faster on pavement than any other MTB tires I've ever used, quite silent on smooth tarmac or concrete, just a muted hum on rougher surfaces . They also have the right volume to cushion out street irregularities even at a fairly high tire pressure (I usually ride at about 50 psi) and are also rather light for the category, and grip while braking or turning on smooth/wet surfaces is surprisingly good. Also very easy to install and good looking too.I can't comment on durability since I've used these tires only for about 350 miles, with zero punctures so far.Overall, extremely happy with these tires!

Great tires for converting a MTB to a decent hybrid ... faster and still great off road
I have a Trek X-Caliber that I use mostly on paved trails, and while the old tires (Bontrager XR2) where great off road and in the rough, I knew I could do better (and faster) for where I ride the bike. After a little bit of research, the Maxxis Torch seem to fit the needs. 300+ miles later (80-90% on paved trails), I am very happy with them. Easy to put on, it took a couple of rides to get used to them and find the right tire pressure (around 40PSI). So far, they feel much faster than the XR2s, they are good on corners, good on grass, seem a bit slow(er) on wet pavement, do good off road (have not experienced any loss in performance for where I use them) and overall very happy with them. Highly recommend them.

Nice tire, but does throw rocks
I got these for my kid's mountain bike since we were going on a long road ride. They are nice tires and worked well, but as others have said they do tend to catch and throw small rocks/large sand. They are also quite heavy, but seem thick and like they will hold up well. Overall with close to 100 miles on them we are happy.

FAST FUN STABLE
Highly Recomend! Doesn't loose speed when on an almost horizontal lean (BMX racing tire origins)and feels very stable when doing so at 20mph+. Fast up right also. Some grip on hardpack and loose (be cautious), but feels predictable and wants to drift when it breaks loose. (gets you through dirt sections, as apposed to a slick sliding out from under you) Best weight by far compared to other urban assault tires. Thorns don't seem to penitrate but an industrial type staple braced upright did (slime in tube sealed it, tires fine). I think that staple would have penetrated anything. Treads wearing well. Stiffer feel interms of confort compared to wtb nano a fast rolling xc tire but not nearly as fun leaning and "shredding" pavment. Tourch is faster upright too but not by a huge margian.Very Impressed. (running 58psi) Have fun.

light and grippy
These tires are used as replacements for the Schwalbe Rapid Rob's my 29er Cannondale F-SI Alloy came with as I don't off road this bike very much but wanted to keep the characteristics as much as possible. Most true 29er semi slicks are quite heavy but these are among the lightest. They corner and grip quite well on road and hard packed surfaces and pleasantly surprised me on loose sand when aired down. Mud and wet grass are off limits however. When aired down the sidewalls flex and as they are thin I wouldn't recommend using these on forest trails anyway. Rolling resistance and noise are noticeably less then off road tires. I cannot comment on their durability and general wear resistance yet but for their intended use these Maxxis' cannot be beaten as far as I'm informed.Update: After 9 months of use I've had no flat yet and the treads are still almost as good as new. I ride my bike 2x a week. Very pleased with this product.
