Top Secret Recipes: Creating Kitchen Clones of America's Favorite Brand-Name Foods: A Cookbook

A bit dissapointing.
I actually expected more than hamburgers and sweets. I could do most of them myself. For me, this cookbook was disappointing. However, the history portion about the origin of the companies and products was interesting.

Fun and interesting, but.......
First off, I do enjoy all of the Todd Wilbur "Top Secret" books. I like to read about how the original product or company came to be. That being said, there are only a couple of issues I have so far with how the information in this book could be better. They are not really all that important but since this is a review, why not discuss it. The two recipes that have caught my eye first were the Twinkie clone and the Mrs. Fields Peanut Butter Dream Bars. Now with the Twinkie clone there is a discrepancy between the ingredients and the directions. For the filling the ingredients list 1/3 cup cream, but in the directions it says to add the evaporated milk. So which is it? Evaporated milk or Cream? I found a video of Todd Wilbur making them online and he used different ingredients altogether. He used marshmallow fluff, sugar and shortening but didn't say how much of each he used. So my giant, loaf of bread size Twinkie clone has been put on hold for a little bit. Secondly, Last night I made the Peanut Butter Dream Bars for a Christmas get-together. I have never had them before but they sounded interesting. The recipe called for 8 Mrs. Fields chocolate chip cookies crumbled and it also had the recipe for them in the book. Since I didn't want to go through the trouble of making a batch of cookies just to use 8 of them I went to the store to buy them off the shelf. I couldn't find them anywhere so I thought I would use a Chips Ahoy substitute. Now since I don't know how big a Mrs. Fields cookie was it would have been useful to include a measurement for the crumbled cookies in the list of ingredients. I figured the Chips Ahoy probably were smaller so I used 10 of them at first but with 5Tb of butter it still wasn't enough. So I threw in another 5 cookies and that seemed better. I also increased the Peanut Butter to 1 cup because the powdered sugar made it too dry and crumbly so it didn't stick together. But increasing or decreasing ingredients to suit your taste is just a fact of cooking anything. I'll find out later how they turned out. Like I said, these are not huge problems but these are just two recipes so far. I have all of his books except the new "Unlocked" book and enjoy having them. I would recommend them as a fun family-type cookbook to play with on the weekends.

No recipe
Book confined only an index no recipes. VeryThis cookbook is not accurately described. Much to my surprise the complete book consisted of an index only and not a single recipe

Worth what I paid
I got this book for free on a Kindle promotion, and I'm so glad I didn't pay for it. The recipes were a joke. The author cautions that the recipes might not taste the same, and I can guarantee he's right. These would be "barely in the ballpark as the original" recipes.

Too Secret Recipes: Creating Kitchen Clones of America's Favorite Brands
I m giving this a 3 Star. I have tried chick filet cheater recipes. This one is different, I don't want to reveal how. But the one I had tasted exactly the same as when you go to the chain. I am looking forward to trying the Twinkie, the candies and the Sara Lee cheese cakes. They are a must try.

Not sure? The KFC didn't impress me! I have the clone that took me 3 years to solve and it does require 11 herbs and spices! The trick is to identify which of the 11 are the main core and which are the background secondary spices and ADJUST....
