Q: i normally wear size medium should i order small if i plan on wearing it for my first show?

It's pretty true to size. I'm 5'11" and 190 and I have a L in these. You probably need a M if that's your normal size

Q: Can you workout in these shorts or are the more for posing?

These are for posing I wouldn't use them to work out Jef North makes a very nice pair of workout shorts there about 25 bucks on Amazon I have two pair and they're nice they come about a third of the way down your quad.
