The size is perfect, large enough for any pistol I choose to carry. I could actually fit two pistols into one safe. The cable seems to be an improvement over older models, being coated with a plastic that protects from scratching or damaging the firearm or interior of the vehicle. The construction of the safe is as advertised. Nice smooth grey finish with rounded edges and corners. Nothing to scratch interior or snag on carpet. Long enough cable to hide safe and retrieve it to more easily unlocked. By purchasing the two matching safes, the included matching keys, two keys per safe will open either safe... giving you four matching keys which can be used on either safe. Perfect in function, price and security. Highly recommend. I purchased the XXL which is approx 11.5 x 9 inches outside measurements. UPDATE: I used it last night and found it to be perfect. Cable is long enough go around one side of passenger seat mounts and allow safe to slide under the seat from rear floor board and back again with lock facing driver side to be unlocked.

Good box. It's solid and fits a full size pistol plus plus. It's heavy enough to resist a screwdriver pry attack and when you use the cable around a hard point should prevent a smash and grab. Of course it wont prevent an attacker with the right tools and enough time but it's not designed for that. A skilled picker might be able to defeat the lock in 30 seconds but your average criminal is not that. The purpose of this box is to prevent crimes of opportunity which it does very well and its one of the best, low cost options out there when the state deprives you of your right to defend your life when you must legally comply with the insanity of "gun free zones".

As others have mentioned, these are secure only to the point of deterring casual prying - a determined thief should have little trouble getting at the contents. For my purpose, though (transporting valuables in a car), they are good enough. I was pleasantly surprised at how heavy these boxes are, and they seem quite sturdy. However, the build quality is iffy. One of the boxes came with a small dent in the top lid. The other box would not lock, due to the locking tab being bent and not aligning with the slot in the locking mechanism. It was easy enough to unscrew the tab and hammer it flat, but even at this low price one wouldn't expect to have to do repairs like that on a brand new item. For the price these are decent enough, as long as you don't expect pristine build quality.

So my first handgun vault was a Nanovault 300. The combination lock is on the flimsy side but it's been 1 month and seems to work fine but doesn't feel like a durable quality item. So after purchasing a second handgun and reading reviews on Amazon I went with the SnapSafe XXl Lock Box Keyed Alike. The price for both was around $55 vs $35 for the single smaller Nanovault 300. I decided on the keyed version this time. The SnapSafes are 16 gauge steel vs the Nanovault 18 gauge. The SnapSafes are simply a better buy, period. And I suggest you go with the keyed since they seem much more durable. The latch engaging parallel to the shorter side of the vault is much more practical and will not interfere with the handgun at all. Regarding the XXL I would really recommend you go with this size. It easily accommodates the handgun and magazines. Can't recommend the SnapSafe enough. Buy with confidence!

I bought the two-pack and I'm very happy with the purchase. These boxes are VERY sturdy. My use is to secure and transport my EDC on domestic flights. The XXL box has enough room for the following pistols (no mag inserted), 2 mags in separate Kydex IWB holders, 1 plastic ammo box holding 50 rounds and a pocket knife. - M&P Shield w/2 8 rd mags - M&P 9c w/12 rd & 17 rd mags - M&P 2.0 Compact .40 4" w/13 rd & 15 rd mags - Springfield Armory XD9 Subcompact w/13 rd & 16 rd mags For the two boxes, I received 4 keys that are interchangeable between the boxes. The boxes are small enough to put one each inside a carry on-size luggage piece (of course they will fly as checked luggage) and still leave plenty of room for the other things you intend to place in your suitcase - including holster. My wife and I can now travel and each have our EDC at the destination. I lock the luggage exterior with a TSA lock AND zip tie the zippers together with neon color zip ties. If TSA or anyone else opens the luggage, I will know because the zip tie will have to be cut. I would buy these boxes again if needed.

We have a couple of other lockboxes, one of pretty light construction and one of fairly heavy construction, so we have some familiarity with these types of products. The SnapSafe XXL lock box is considerably larger than typical boxes of this nature, which was one of the main reasons for the purchase. Inside are 4 sheets of foam, providing flexibility in the capacity and protection of the items stored inside. The locking mechanism and cable are about what I expected in a $30 or so product. They won't deter a determined thief or one with much in the way of tools, but they should prevent the typical smash and grab type of theft. We travel with tablet computers, typically a couple of 10-inch models in the usual thin cases. With 2 of the 4 foam sheets in place, we are able to store both tablets in the box and lock them up when we are away from our vehicle. Another plus was getting 2 of the lockboxes keyed alike, very convenient. Some of the products we considered don't have the keyed-alike option. Overall we are very pleased with these lockboxes. Well-made, large capacity and keyed-alike at a very competitive price.

This is my 2nd set, work great, secure and simple, now I have one in each vehicle. Better cable than other mobile safes. Go with a key, digital safes break down.
