Total waste of time and money - author should be ashamed of setting this in Savannah
This is one of the all time worst books I have read. Shallow, unlikable women, every single one. The author presents all men, except the two gay caterers, as selfish stupid bastards. This book is so bad it does not deserve to be called a trashy novel. Savannah is a fabulous setting for a novel. Totally wasted on this one. I live in Savannah and always am seeking good books set in this area. This was a lazy and sloppy effort on the author’s part. The New York Times Book Review recommended this. Really appalling. I have lost trust in their reviews.

Dead to me
Sorry this book was a vacuous, cliche ridden series of thudding non- events. So much redundant uninteresting writing and character development was hastily colored in with garish markets. Spoiler- the ghost was an albino not an actual ghost. Wow.

More drama than thriller
I really enjoyed Cross Her Heart so I was excited to read Dead to Her by Sarah Pinborough as well. Unfortunately (why can't the book always be as good as the cover?) it didn't completely work for me.It felt like a fast read but still took me over 5.5 hours which is pretty long for me for a 385-page book. Also, I don't really think it could be considered a thriller. Dead to Her is more like a drama-filled mystery about wealthy people and people with secrets they'd rather keep buried. The plot was a little slow for my taste and I ended up guessing the killer before it was revealed. This was disappointing since I was expecting a crazy twist that I didn't think I got. There were definitely positives as well though. Dead to Her has a lot of layers and there always seemed to be something new to learn about the characters. I was a fan of the ending even though some people weren't, and I'm hopeful there is more karma coming to some of the characters! I also really enjoyed the setting of Savannah, Georgia and the voodoo theme.Song/s the book brought to mind: I Put A Spell On You by Annie LennoxFinal Thought: Even though Dead to Her isn't going to be my favorite Pinborough novel, I definitely still recommend checking it out for yourself. Not a lot of likable characters but that didn't bother me, and there were still a few things I wasn't expecting. I love the experience that reading Pinborough's books gives me, and I can't wait for the next one!

A MYSTERY SET IN THE SOUTH...
Marriage can be murder… SOMETHING OLD Marcie’s affair with Jason Maddox catapulted her into the world of the elite. Old money, old ties, old secrets. Marcie may have married into this world— but she’ll never be part of it. SOMETHING NEW Then Jason’s boss brings back a new wife from his trip to London. Young, attractive, reckless—nobody can take their eyes off Keisha. Including Marcie’s husband. SOMETHING YOU CAN NEVER, EVER UNDO… Some people would kill for the life Marcie has—what will she do to keep it?My Thoughts: Marcie is trying to fit into her new life in Savannah without letting the past keep her captive.Keisha wants the money she would have if her wealthy and brutish husband dies.Jason longs to take over the company from his boss. All of these people have secrets, and the darkness that keeps them from being truly good will surely dictate what happens next in their lives.Dead to Her unfolds from the perspectives of them all, and we are left trying to guess who has suddenly turned a corner into true darkness. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the author surprised me in the end.An enjoyable read, but it seemed to take forever to read it as I sank further into the darkness with the characters. 4.5 stars.

A thriller its not.
Sarah Pinborough is an excellent author and this novel fell short compared to her previous two. I found this author riding on the heels of E.L. James and would not have classified as suspenseful or in a thriller category. I gave it a two because although the synopsis was well written the plot nose dived and did not deliver.

disappointing
After reading Behind Her Eyes and Cross Her Heart i anticipated this to be another great read, but sadly it did not grab me like Behind her eyes did and i lost interest mid way. I do hate giving up on a book but i basically skimmed the last quarter of the book and reading the end i am glad i did not invest any more time on this one.. But truly can not sing enough praises on Behind Her Eyes... such a great book. will be hard to top that one

Solid and steamy mystery novel
I really like this author and her writing style. The story was engaging and I described it to my friends as a “sexual thriller”. My only complaint is the way we find find out the truth in the end. Villains straight up confessing every detail of their plan unprovoked just wouldn’t happen in real life. It’s a pet peeve that I see in movies all the time, and I feel like there has to be a better way to reveal the plot.

“Men knew nothing about the tricky waters of mutual mistrust women swam in.”
“Men knew nothing about the tricky waters of mutual mistrust women swam in.”But who can you trust when your place in society depends maintaining a veneer of respectability over your true self?Marcie Maddox thought her position in society was secure, but just as she’s beginning to settle into her life as the beautiful, second wife of Jason Maddox, a partner in their widower friend William’s law firm, William arrives home from a tour abroad with a younger, beautiful second wife. Blowing in like a whirlwind, Keisha upsets the very fabric of their social circle and threatens to tear their world apart. Will Marcie be able to save her marriage as jealousy sets in? Will she be able to keep her past a secret, and stop it from toppling her from her place in society? And when it comes down to it, who will she decide to put her faith in?What can I say?? This book is SUPER well written and unputdownable, to use a word I hate to use!The characters are great, the setting, with the heat and sultriness of the south, the perfect backdrop to this whodunnit tale of lies and secrets. Is anyone who they say they are? Are the stories they’ve told of themselves anything close to the truth, if true at all? It’s a fast ride through a web of deceit and darkness, with a sprinkle of voodoo adding to the intrigue. And that ending? Maybe everyone should always be looking over their shoulder.

Seductive suspense thriller
Years ago I used to love reading the glitzy, scandalous books that were eventually termed 'bonkbusters' and Dead To Her reminded me of those novels although it also comes with a dark Southern Gothic twist. Set among the upper echelons of Savannah society, this is an addictive tale of revenge and murder.Newly widowed, William Radford IV went to London for a few months and returned with a new bride on his arm. Despite the false politeness, Keisha knows she doesn't fit in to the moneyed set - she is too young, too common, too reckless and too black. However, she does catch the eye of Jason Maddox, which in turn attracts the attention of his wife, Marcie. Until Keisha's arrival, Marcie was the young second wife but she has changed to conform and worries that the old adage, 'once a cheater, always a cheater' will hold true, especially when it becomes increasingly obvious that her husband is keeping secrets from her.William and Jason are thoroughly unpleasant men; the former is an entitled bully and Maddox is a duplicitous gaslighter but the two women aren't exactly innocent victims either. Keisha is a gold-digger who is desperate for her husband to die so that she can get her hands on his money and though Marcie married for love, she has no intention of going back to her former life as a waitress. This is a slow-burner of a novel and it took me a little while to figure out how I felt about Marcie and Keisha but as the book progressed I became increasingly intrigued by these secretive, conniving women. It's perhaps easier to sympathise with Keisha's predicament, as despite her deceit, she has clearly come from a troubled, even abusive background. Raised by an uncle who claimed to be a witch doctor and an aunt who practised something akin to dark voodoo, she has long believed herself to be cursed. Both manipulator and manipulated, she is a fascinating character. Marcie is equally as interesting; she also knows what it's like to grow up poor but her affluent lifestyle now doesn't seem to have made her any happier. She evidently feels suffocated by her position and yet she is clearly not prepared to give it all up.There's something very sultry about Dead To Her; in part it's the Georgia setting which is richly evoked but it's also due to the seductive, erotic sex scenes and the way in which hints of Savannah's voodoo subculture are woven in to the story. Almost a cautionary tale of greed and betrayal, this is a fiendishly dark and surprising suspense thriller which becomes more twisted towards the end and has a deliciously shocking conclusion. This is my first book by Sarah Pinborough, it won't be my last.

Another great book from Sarah!
I've been a fan of Sarah Pinborough's work since I first read her Dog Faced Gods trilogy, I've read all of her books since and Dead to Her was one of her best yet.I'm not going to bore you with plot details or a full review, I'm just going to say that Dead to Her is full of surprises and twists and it kept me guessing right up to the end. Fantastic, tense and well written as usual. Great stuff!

Not a bad read.
It was a little slow to get going and then never really picked up any speed. The idea/storyline was good although I’d earmarked the perpetrator early on. None of the characters are likeable (but that’s not a problem) what was annoying was the classic perpetrator explanation of how, when and why at the end.

Does money really make you happy??
So this is the second Sarah Pinborough Book I’ve read, the first being The Language Of Dying. Yes I’m probably one of the few who hasn’t read Behind Her Eyes.Marcie is happy. She’s married to a gorgeous successful lawyer, she’s part of a well-to-do circle of friends. Enter stage left Keisha…. and her entrance changes everything!!!This book is very different to my previous experience of Pinborough but equally very similar. This is less morbid but equally as dark and twisted. The imagery is fantastic, I had no issue following Marcie through this rocky journey. And what a journey it is!! The deeper I traveled into this privileged community, the more twisted the lengths people go for those they love get. You name it, they probably did it… and there is little Marcie can do as she sees cracks start to appear in her relationships.Dead To Her is a tense thriller questioning loyalties under a community determined to look good. Nothing is quite what it seems… I thoroughly enjoyed this read and need to book in reading Cross Her Heart and Behind Her Eyes.
