Ocean Kayak Venus 10 One-Person Women's Sit-On-Top Kayak

Just took it out for the first time today. I'm a 70 year old woman 5'4", 132#. I sail my kayaks on a bay, and she flew. I was having trouble handling my 12' kayak when it was out of the water. This is a breeze for me to move around. Going to keep sailing until the bay freezes...CY

This Kayak is awesome! Ordered it for my wife (Susan) since it was advertised as a 'ladies" kayak, and Susan is o the small side. For one, it is lightweight. She can carry it herself. It's short but not too short. Susan reports that it handles well and has plenty of room.We use our kayaks for leisurely trips along there bayous down here in southern Louisiana. With these kayaks (I have an Ocean Scrambler 11) we are easily able to pilot these things into very shallow waters, certainly a foot or less, allowing us to paddle up the cuts and weave in and out among the cypress trees that poke out of the water.Although we haven't tried it yet, I have no doubt that these things would do equally well in open surf. They are quite stable. We are not experienced kayakers; still we are able to handle these things and stay balanced with ease. Well worth the money!

Although this kayak weighs only 37lbs. it still feels heavy and awkward to carry. The carry handles are not at the center of balance, so you have to fight it's weight. It has a skid plate so you aren't as likely to ruin the bottom by pulling it, but it is quite small and you still end up scuffing the bottom of the boat. The first time I went out in it I didn't have the seat back jammed into the slot, so make sure you do that before you go. Also, you must buy the scupper plugs for the seat area or you are sure to get wet. Ocean Kayak extra small scuppers fit perfectly and do the job. I do wish it had a cup holder or some sort of storage bin in the cockpit. The only storage is behind the seat. Nowhere to put much of anything, like your water bottle, keys, phone or a snack. But all in all it is a beautiful boat that is enjoyable to paddle and it quite fast. I love it.

The moment I pushed off shore I was in love. This kayak moves through the water with such ease! Geez, I've been working so hard kayaking prior to owning the Ocean Kayak Venus 11. Wish I had made the choice to purchase this model several years ago~

It fits me, it's fast, and it tracks well. I have short legs and there are at least two comfortable positions for my feet. The seat is really hard if you are paddling for more than an hour or so and a gel seat only helped a little. I actually stole an inflatable seat from my old blow up kayak and that gives me the cushioning I need without raising me up too high. For me car topping is not "a breeze" as in the ads. It is heavy and I cannot seem to figure out how to grab it easily with where the handles are placed. I would have loved to have two handles on one side for carrying it. The bungee cord for the paddle keeper is so tight I can't use it, as is the seat bungee, and the front and back bungee handles are really tough to grab and do not provide a positive loop to tie the kayak down on the car top. I presume as the bungees age they will loosen a bit. I was hoping for a kayak I could load without help, but I can only just barely do it on a good day. Not so sure after paddling for a few hours. Even so, it's a great little kayak and I would buy it again.

my wife really enjoys the boat, it would get 5 stars if it had storage locations and cup/bottle holders

I am returning this kayak as I definitely need more boat around me than it offers for paddling rivers in FL. It did not track well and almost impossible to paddle upstream against the current. This boat is best for kids on a calm lake. It is definitely for smaller people than what description stated.

Lightweight, easily manageable, and perfect for the calm lake kayaking, especially for a novice. Love it!
