Size:1 Ounce Motherwort is a herbaceous perennial plant in the mint family. The botanical name Leonurus refers to a fanciful resemblance of the leaves to a lion’s tale. Common names include throw-wort, lion's ear, and lion's tail. Motherwort is native to the southeastern part of Europe and central Asia where it has been cultivated since ancient times. Motherwort is introduced to Canada and the continental U.S. It has dull green, hairy leaves and an intensely bitter taste. Small, sessile, pink-lilac flowers (each to 1/2 in long) bloom from June to August in rosettes nestled in the leaf axils. Motherwort is primarily grown for aesthetics and herbal medicinal uses. It has a very bitter taste and is generally unsuitable for culinary uses.
