Exactly what I was looking for
My maltese needs to be groomed about once a month to keep a clean look and avoid the long nappy mess he turns into. At about $60 a pop for professional grooming I figured even if I got through one at home it would save money. I'm very happy with the performance of these clippers. I've never groomed a dog before but I watched the DVD and got to work on the big mop that was my dog. The motor is nice and quiet so he was comfortable and it was powerful enough to get the job done. It did take many passes to work down to the length I wanted, it wouldn't just power through his coat. That's probably best at my skill level anyway since it gave me time to see the end result taking shape. Definitely going to save a ton of money in the long run so I would recommend these for anyone with a small dog requiring frequent grooming.

Clippers
Let me start this by saying that i have been grooming my dogs for over ten years. My first pair of clippers was cheap and crappy. The second one my aunt, a professional groomer and breader going on 45 years, bought for me. They were a pricy pair that worked wounderfully and impecably for about 7-8 years. When they gave out i just started taking my dogs to my aunt, but that gets pricy. So I decided to fork out the cash to get my own set again. I just didnt want to spend 200+ on a set of groomer quality shears when I am only grooming two small dogs.I decided to try these out. I purchased and recieved them about 2 months ago. I have an aging shitzu and a neuratic tibetin terrier. While the clippers are wounderful and do the job, they tend to be alittle too noisy for my terrier. The shitzu did have issues with the shears heating up to fast, but cooling spray and the lubricant oil took care of that. While I didn't need the dvd that came with it. It is a nice bonus for those still learning. The clippers had some trouble with their coats, but that was to be expected. Both have thicker than usual under and top coats. All in all, these are a rather decent pair of clippers and while I would probably not buy them again. I don't regret getting them and will continue to use them until they give up the ghost.

Be wary of the comb points if you have small dogs
I got this trimmer for my papillon on a recommendation from a vet friend of mine who also owns papillons. The trimmer does a good job with trimming, is very even, and easy to keep clean. But if you have a small dog, be careful of the points on the plastic combs. Even though the blade itself is a safety blade and cannot cut your dog, the tips on the plastic combs themselves are sharp enough to cut if they catch your dog's skin at the wrong angle. I was trimming my dog with the No. 2 comb attachment when she suddenly jerked and caught her thigh awkwardly on the plastic comb points. They opened up a half-inch gash that my vet needed two staples to close. If you buy this trimmer, consider filing down the points some of the comb attachments - there's no reason for them to be as sharp as they are, and they divide hair just as evenly if they've been slightly blunted.

Quiet and Didn't Scare My Buddy!
My dog was having difficulty pooping due to medication he was given. He was at his end days and shivered with anxiety at loud noises. I wanted a professional product yet didn't want to pay too much as I knew I wouldn't need it for long or use it very often. I only needed it twice. It worked! My Fozzie (Aussie!) wasn't taken back too much. He was just wondering what I was doing to his butt. But he was not afraid of the noise. It worked well. I tried the different sizes but I have two left thumbs and couldn't figure it out. It didn't take me long until I just said heck with it and carefully used the clipper by itself without the attachments. It worked fine.Yes, my vet would have probably done it cheaper but this saved him one less trip to the vet. I won't throw it away as there may be another "Fozzie" in the future....

Not quite what we wanted
I was looking for clippers that would cut through thick, matted dog hair and these didn’t quite do the trick. It takes us well over an hour to groom our golden doodle because these just really can’t handle her coat. I’d recommend getting something with maybe longer tines or sharper blades.
