OK, so I wanted to add some glittery script to the borders of some silk scarves I've been sewing. I settled on this liquid as being my best bet for adding gold foil to the fabric. The Deco Foil works well, since it seems to stretch with the Fabric and holds up to being heated with an iron (note: I always made sure there was a piece of teflon screen between my iron and the foil or the glue). After applying the foil, I ran a medium iron over where I foiled (with a teflon screen between, of course), to "fix" it into the cloth a bit more, and to flatten any places where the glue beaded up. I also soaked a test piece of cloth that I'd gilded, and the foil did not come off. I found the applicator tip to make too thick of a line of glue on the fabric for the size writing I wanted, so I ended up applying it to the fabric with a fine brush. Unfortunately, this tends to sort of "push" the glue into the fabric, causing it to soak in and darken the fabric wherever the glue is most thinly applied, which also just happens to be the places in your design that will be less sticky and so are less likely to attach to the foil; but the places where your brush allows the glue to be more thickly spread will readily stick. (I've attached a photo, but it's very difficult to get the darkened, un-foiled sections of fabric to show up on camera) I did not have to wait the 1 to 2 hours after applying the glue, because the way I was applying it with a brush involved much smaller amounts of glue and so it turned "clear" as little as 10 minutes after I applied it. I used the back of a spoon to smooth over the Deco Foil and get it to fully bond to the glue. It wasn't perfect, as I needed it to be thinner and also not to so readily soak into the fabric; but it did not "bleed" or give me a problem with stickiness on the back-side of the fabric; and, despite with the small patches of darkened, un-foiled fabric, the free-form and very small size of my designs keep the problem areas from being very noticeable. I am very pleased with the overall effect. Also, no strong smells or fumes to worry about here either. In short, I am pretty pleased with this Deco Foil and Liquid Adhesive and I look forward to further experimentations.
