Useful for Flite Test builds, but maybe not suitable for beginners.
On the one hand, the price isn't bad at all. On the other hand, I did have to deduct a star because there was no documentation about how to use this. Why, for instance, does my motor have to be connected to Channel 3? How do I program this thing with my computer? Ultimately, I'll figure these things out, but for most beginners, I don't know that I'd recommend this to the novice builder/flyer. I used this with the Flite Test Flyer kit, and was able to get it working reasonably well.

For $35, this is an amazing deal. The receiver works great with servos I tested, and I followed some tutorials online to read the receiver signal with my Arduino. That means I can use it to interface with almost any of my electronics projects.Pick up a 8-pack of AA batteries.

For the price it's hard to beat. HOWEVER, you need to get the USB cable to adjust anything on this transmitter- even something as simple as servo reversing. Deducted a star for that, since I can't use this setup until the cable arrives now.

Worthless without the cable that can’t be found anywhere
What kind of company sells a transmitter without the cable to program it... which doesn’t seem to exist anywhere? Very disappointed, this thing is basically useless to me now

Three Stars
It doesn't come with a trainer cable.
