5 star music, 1 star pressing.
GREAT album. Crappy pressing. I've been finding the Blue Note reissues to be a bit of a crapshoot. This is an amazing album in terms of music, but my pressing has a few incredibly noisy spots...as if someone took a knife to the groove. Very frustrating. I probably should have returned/exchanged this one.

Not bad but not my favorite
This cd turned out to be a disappointment. For one thing the sound isn't very good (at least on my pressing). This is an early recording and perhaps Smith was still developing his style and chops. In any case the music sounds far less interesting and exciting than many of his other recordings. IMO.

Great Recording!
If you are a fan of jazz organ you must add this to your collection. Jimmy Smith Hammond B3, Stanley Turrentine Sax, Kenny Burrell guitar and Donald Bailey drums.

Love every cut
One of the most reviewed CDs ever made. Not sure I have anything else to add, other than it should be a well worn disc in any listeners collection. Love every cut.

Beautifully harmonious jazz
I'm no jazz aficionado, although I do have a growing collection of jazz, the vast majority brought on the recommendations from other peoples reviews including this one, this is my second Jimmy Smith CD the first being Midnight Special, and this is in my opinion is equally as good as that one, which if I remember correctly I also gave 5 stars to, this shouldn't be any surprise as it is exactly the same line up of musicians, Stanley Turrentine (tenor Sax) Kenny Burrell (Guitar) and Donald Bailey (Drums) and is also on the Blue Note Label. Beautifully harmonious jazz with in my opinion just a hint of blues, the band are so together, complimenting each others playing wonderfully, I will probably be adding some more Jimmy Smith to my collection but I have no intention of falling into the trap of trying to buy all his work, I highly recommend this CD, but then i think everyone else does who has reviewed it.

A good vinyl !
I agree with all the reviewers who appreciated this album. As for the vinyl, it is an excellent replica of the original BLUE NOTE album. BLUE NOTE is famous for its jazz recordings, and this one sounds excellent, being carefully remastered.WARNING: do not buy this album from the Russian manufacturer DOL. It is a fake, DOL has not the original master source, but cuts vinyls from digital files, usually cds from the market. You will have a vinyl that sounds as a cd or even worse. It's a trickery and I do not know why amazon sells such contrefaits.Only four stars because the vinyl came with a lost of muck in the grooves. It should be thoroughly cleaned and even so when I played it firstly there was muck accumulated on the needle of the card.

Funky Class
I reckon it's the chemistry between organ, sax and guitar which makes this album such an enjoyable, happily funky, melodic treat. From the title track onwards Smith and Turrentine alternate solos, following and embellishing one another's melody lines. Sometimes the organ is delivering a rich bounce; at others rumbling deeply like distant thunder. Turrentine is the ideal partner, with a richly mellow reed sound, whether he's producing perky notes, or lazy honeyed melodic layers.Burrell on guitar is enmeshed in the tight sound, driven along sympathetically by Bailey's drums. The shortest track here is just short of six minutes, while the longest is more than double that. As a result, there is time for the soloists to 'pass the baton round' and stretch out, and the music is given plenty of room to breath. Richly lovely stuff.

Great music
I think that Jimmy Smith makes great music to sit and relax too especially the Chicken Shack CD.
