The media could not be loaded. I bought and compared the following whistles:1. Fox 40 Sonik Blast CMG Whistle (Red)2. Acme 636 Safety Whistle (Black)3. UST Marine JetScream Whistle (Yellow)I compared the three of them in the video (in that order). I think the Acme 636 Safety Whistle is best based on it's small shape, loud sound, and price. I think the Fox 40 Sonik Blast CMG Whistle is a close second because the sound is really similar to that put out by the Acme, and I like the soft rubber for gripping with teeth/lips. The UST Marine JetScream Whistle was disappointing. I blew with the same force I did with the other whistles and most of the sound was just a rush of air rather than a whistling sound.Watch and listen to the video and see what you think. I've owned many whistles over the years. I commute by bike and a whistle is the only practical way to be heard inside a car or through headphones. A polite bell just doesn't do it. This whistle is light enough to carry in my lips and its loud enough to do the job of alerting pedestrians and drivers to stop their wandering ways. It also works to repel chasing dogs and aggressive panhandlers. Its not the loudest whistle I've ever used but it's the loudest compact whistle I've used. I also keep a glow in the dark one on my keys and it lives there unobtrusively. As one might expect of a keychain, it only sees a few minutes of light a day, yet still manages to glow softly all night. This is great as a small light also lives on my keys and this whistle makes it easy to find in the dark. I've used my whistle several times to diffuse potential muggings by looking at people suspiciously following me straight in the eye and whistling my fool head off. Let me tell you it attracts attention which is exactly what that kind of person doesn't want. This is totally not going to work if you're clueless or wait until they're right up on you and can silence you permanently.

Super loud whistle. Hurts my ears to blow it full blast. It is well made, heavy duty plastic in a flat design. Can't break it by sitting on it that is for sure. Every stepping on it won't harm it. It would probably hold up to stomping on it as well but lets not go crazy. I clipped it onto the chest strap on my hiking pack (just in case I need it). I have not studied tons of different whistle types like some of the reviewers but I can say that this whistle will do the job for a hiking survival type of situation. I don't use it for coaching soccer though. Way to loud.

This item is exactly as advertised and well worth the purchase. I was looking for a small, inexpensive, but extremely loud whistle for a safety kit I was putting together. This item fulfilled all my requirements and exceeded my expectations. It is small but extremely sturdy and incredibly loud. Perfect for camping, hiking, or as a survival kit item. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs a whistle for any application. Well done ACME! Wile E. Coyote would be proud and would probably purchase this item too.

The good: Moderately loud, lightweight, compact. It has a high pitched distinctive trill that makes it easy to identify as a whistle and cuts through background noise. Works well in the water (SOLAS approved).The bad: Moderate effort to reach full volume reduces it suitability as an emergency whistle. The ACR WW-3 and ACME 660 will match its output with less effort. Fairly high pitch reduces its range in wooded areas.Overall: Good signaling whistle for medium ranges. There are such varying reviews as to the loudness of this whistle. I do not know why. I blew it to test it out right when I got it and 1) my ears were ringing for 30 minutes and 2) I scared my wife at the other end of our 5000 square foot house who was not even on the same floor as I was. Some people must just not know how to blow a whistle. I got this whistle to keep in my bathing suit when bodysurfing in heavy surf - just in case I get into trouble. It is very slim, pealess - so will work when wet, and LOUD.

I ride my mountain bike on trails in NM to provide exercise for my year-old golden retriever. Since he's still technically a pup, I needed a training aid that could be heard over a good distance. This whistle was exactly what I needed. It's small, convenient and can be heard by my dog a couple of hundred meters away.

Thumb sized and almost ear shattering. Be careful when around other living creatures. One of our dogs is old, really old. He has no sight nor any hearing. He goes from place to place using smell and probably muscle memory. He hears only the highest part of the sound registry such as the ACME Whistle produces. He responds well when he hears two short whistles.I cannot stand single purpose products and while some are absolutely necessary, I always look for that 'other use.' If you happen to be in a big box store and hear 2 or 3 beeps from ACME, it is probably me or some other old fool. 'John must be in the store looking for Judy.' or something as silly. It works. I sure hope I never have to use it for other than peaceful activities.

Great for use as a signalling device.I pair it with a little push button light, for audible and visual signalling.

Compact version of the original Tornado - handy and still very loud - great for refereeing or signalling.
